Fields Corner Will Get a New Restaurant With a Mission

A community-minded restaurant set to open in Dorchester’s Fields Corner has launched a fundraising campaign to get off the ground. Run by chef Anthony Caldwell, 50Kitchen will operate as a restaurant while also providing mentoring for youths and leftover food to local shelters through various partnerships.

Currently, Caldwell operates 50Kitchen (slogan: “beautiful food for beautiful people”) as a private chef and catering business. He has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund its evolution into a full-on restaurant, which will serve Southern American fare, including fried pickles, wings, chicken and waffles, burgers, vegetarian sliders, and other sandwiches. Some of the menu will also incorporate dishes from Asian cuisine, according to 50Kitchen’s Indiegogo crowdfunding page.

Caldwell is a native of Dorchester, whose past experience includes cooking for local restaurants, hotels, and universities, and he is intent upon making an impact on his home community. His hope for 50Kitchen is to “provide support to the youth in this community” and give back to the place where he grew up, Caldwell wrote on the 50Kitchen website. He also intends to hire Dorchester residents for the restaurant.

He plans to provide food for local shelters and has partnered with the Helen Y. Davis Leadership Academy to set up a mentorship program to teach children the basics of daily operations at a restaurant. As he works to open the 50Kitchen restaurant, Caldwell continues providing events catering and private chef services through his business, operating out of 1450 Dorchester Ave.
