A Korean Fried Chicken Joint Joins Boston’s Growing Delivery-Only Restaurant Scene

Boston’s delivery-only restaurant scene — not to mention its scene of restaurants with the word “wow” in their names — is growing again. It was just yesterday that Puritan & Co. opened the virtual doors of its delivery-only counterpart, Puritan Trading Co., in Cambridge, one of the first local entries into an expanding national trend of “ghost restaurants” that exist only to serve delivery, not to seat customers. (Another delivery-only spot, True Taste Seasonal Kitchen, opened last year out in Needham.)

As it turns out, another Boston delivery-only restaurant quietly popped up as well just last week, delivering Korean fried chicken, bibimbap, and more. The enthusiastically named Wow Wings (with the “wow” standing for “wild over wings”) offers delivery around the Greater Boston area, serving up wings in four flavors — soy garlic, spicy, Asian barbecue, and Buffalo — among other menu items.

Like Puritan Trading Company, though, Wow Wings is connected to an actual sit-down restaurant — or rather, three: Mission Sushi & Wok in Mission Hill and Ginger Exchange near Symphony Hall and in Cambridge’s Inman Square, which also serve the wings on their regular menu. (Unrelated, however, is the area’s other “wow” restaurant, Wow Barbecue, a Chinese restaurant with locations in Malden and Providence, as well as a Brookline offshoot called Wu Er by Wow Barbecue.)

In addition to wings, Wow Wings also serves kimchi fries, dumplings, shrimp lollipops, bibimbap, and assorted bao with fillings like pork belly and teriyaki chicken. The menu ranges in price from $5.50 for four wings to around $17 for Korean barbecue galbi, or marinated beef short ribs.

Wow Wings delivers throughout Boston proper and beyond (including Cambridge, Somerville, Waltham, Belmont, and a few other nearby spots) with a minimum charge of $15 and a $2 delivery fee. Order online; it’s open — well, “open,” — for lunch and dinner daily.

In other recent news of wing restaurants with silly names, Thelonious Monkfish offshoot Chick Chick Boom debuted in Cambridgeport in December, featuring wings in a variety of sauces inspired by different Asian cuisines.
