Winfield Ong is the lead counsel of the criminal division in the U.S. Attorney's office for the Southern District of Indiana. On January 12, 2016, Ong was nominated by President Barack Obama to be a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.[1] On January 3, 2017, Ong's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[2]
Education
Ong graduated with his B.A., cum laude, from DePauw University in 1980 and earned his J.D. from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College in 1985.[1]

Ong was nominated by President Barack Obama on January 12, 2016, to be a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Obama stated regarding the nomination, "I am pleased to nominate Winfield Ong to serve on the United States District Court bench. I am confident he will serve the American people with distinction."[1]
The American Bar Association rated Ong Unanimously Qualified for the nomination.[3]
Hearings on Ong's nomination were held in the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on May 18, 2016, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on June 16, 2016].[4][5] On January 3, 2017, Ong's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[2]
