Stephanie A. Finley is the former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana. She was nominated to serve on the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana by President Barack Obama on February 4, 2016.[1] On January 3, 2017, Finley's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[2]
Education
Finley earned her B.S. magna cum laude from Grambling State University in 1988 and her J.D. cum laude from Southern University Law Center in 1991.[1]

Finley was nominated to serve on the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana by President Barack Obama on February 4, 2016. Obama remarked on the nomination of Finley and one other nominee, "Throughout their careers, these nominees have displayed unwavering commitment to justice and integrity. Their records of public service are distinguished and impressive and I am confident that they will serve the American people well from the United States District Court bench. I am honored to nominate them today."[1]
The American Bar Association rated Finley Majority Qualified, Minority Well Qualified for the nomination.[3]
Hearings on Finley's nomination were held in the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on May 18, 2016, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on June 16, 2016.[4][5] On January 3, 2017, Finley's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[2]
