Robert A. Onofry was an interim judge of the New York Supreme Court 9th Judicial District (Queens County). The New York State Senate confirmed Onofry to the interim position on June 20, 2019. The New York State Constitution allows judges who have reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 to continue serving for two years at a time until they turn 76.[1][2]
Onofry was a judge for the Orange County Surrogate's Court and an acting justice of the Orange County Supreme Court in the 9th Judicial District of New York. He was appointed to these courts in 2009.[3][4] He retired at the end of 2019, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.[1]
Education
Onofry received his J.D. degree from the New England School of Law.[3]
Career
Onofry began his judicial career when he was elected to the Port Jervis City Court in 1997. He was re-elected in 2002. He then joined the Orange County Surrogate's Court and the Orange County Supreme Court in 2009.[3]
