Richard Caretti is a judge for the 16th Circuit Court in Macomb County, Michigan. He was appointed to this position by Gov. John Engler on October 30, 2002, to replace Judge Pat M. Donofrio.[1] He was re-elected in 2004, 2010, and 2016.[2]
Education
Caretti received a B.A. from Wayne State University in 1975 and a J.D. from the Detroit College of Law in 1980. While in college, he worked as a Detroit police officer.[1]
Career
Caretti worked as a private practice lawyer for 23 years prior to joining the circuit court bench in 2002. He first joined the firm of Dickinson Wright, PLLC in 1979. He eventually became a senior partner of that firm. In 1996, he became a partner and member of the board of directors for Strobl, Cunningham, Caretti & Sharp, where he served until his appointment to the circuit court in 2002.[1]

2016
Michigan held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election occurred on August 2, 2016. The candidate filing deadline for incumbents was March 21, and the deadline for non-incumbents was April 19.[3] Incumbent Richard Caretti and incumbent Kathy Viviano were unopposed in the 16th Circuit general election (2 open seats).[2]
