Paul Martin was a candidate for District 8 representative on the San Antonio City Council in Texas. Martin was defeated in the general election on May 6, 2017.
The council is a nonpartisan body. Martin described his partisan affiliation in Ballotpedia's 2017 candidate survey as, "independent, but I lean Democratic."[1]
Biography
Martin was born January 20, 1953. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and St. John's College for his undergraduate education. He earned a graduate degree from the U.S. Naval War College and additionally attended the Art Students' League. As of April 2017, he was a managing partner and the chief investment officer at Martin Capital Advisors, LLP. He had also worked as a general partner at Transformative Technologies Fund, LP, and as a partner at Louis Vega Trevino Art & Design, LLC.[1]
Martin served in the U.S. Army as a Swahili linguist and intelligence analyst form the Army Security Agency from 1973 to 1976. He then served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a surface warfare officer and SEAL delivery team commanding officer from 1980 to 1998.[1]
Elections
2017
The city of San Antonio, Texas, held general elections for mayor and all 10 of its city council seats on May 6, 2017. Candidates had to earn a majority of the votes cast in this election to win. Any race where no candidate received a majority (50 percent plus one) of the general election votes cast for that position advanced to a runoff election on June 10, 2017. The following candidates ran in the general election for the District 8 seat on the San Antonio City Council.[2]
