Biography
Egan Jones earned her A.S. in fine arts from Mt. Aloysius College and her B.S. in political science from Rutgers University-Camden. Her professional experience includes working as chief of staff for New Jersey Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts and legislative and administrative director to the late New Jersey State Senator Walter Rand. She previously served as a Camden County surrogate judge from 2001 to 2015, as a Camden County Freeholder from 1998 to 2000, and on the Barrington Borough Council from 1996 to 1998.[1]

The general election took place on November 7, 2017. A primary election took place on June 6, 2017. The filing deadline for the primary election was April 3, 2017.[2] Legislative districts in the New Jersey General Assembly are multi-member districts, with two representatives in each district. In Democratic and Republican primary elections, the top two candidates move forward to the general election, and the top two candidates in the general election are declared the winners.[3] Incumbent Patricia Egan Jones (D) and incumbent Arthur Barclay (D) defeated Teresa Gordon (R) and Kevin Ehret (R) in the New Jersey General Assembly District 5 general election.[4][5]

2015
Elections for the New Jersey General Assembly took place in 2015. A primary election was held on June 2, 2015. The general election took place on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 30, 2015.[9] Since the general assembly uses multi-member districts, the top two candidates from each party in the primaries advanced to the general election. Incumbent Angel Fuentes and Marianne Holly Cass were bracketed together and were unopposed in the Democratic primary. Kevin Ehret and Ralph Williams were bracketed together and were unopposed in the Republican primary. Incumbent Fuentes resigned from the General Assembly and Cass withdrew from the race after the Democratic primary. The two were replaced by Patricia Egan Jones and Arthur Barclay.[10] Williams did not appear on the official candidate list for the general election; he was replaced by Keith A. Walker.[11] Jones and Barclay defeated Ehret and Walker in the general election.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18]
