The magistrate courts are courts in New Mexico with jurisdiction over cases such as landlord-tenant rights, traffic violations, and preliminary felony hearings. Judges also sign off on search and arrest warrants for law enforcement officers.[1]

There are 66 magistrate judges in New Mexico, serving in 54 magistrate courts.[2] Magistrate court judges earn an annual salary of $79,537. Each judge handles between 50 and 80 cases each day. 28,000 cases are filed in New Mexico's magistrate courts annually.[3]

Bernalillo County does not have a magistrate court. The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court has jurisdiction in the county.
