Monte Campbell is the Position 2 judge for the 12th Judicial District in Oregon.[1] He was elected to the court in 2010.[2] Campbell served as presiding judge on the Polk County Circuit Court.
Campbell won re-election to a second term without opposition in the primary election on May 17, 2016. His current term expires on January 2, 2023.
Biography
Campbell earned his B.S. in political science from Oregon State University in 1991. He earned his J.D. from the Willamette College of Law in 1994.[3][4]

Selection method

Judges of the Oregon Supreme Court, Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Circuit Courts are all selected in an identical manner. They are chosen in nonpartisan elections to serve six-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving.[5]
The chief judges of the circuit courts are appointed by the chief justice of the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[5]
Qualifications
To serve on the circuit court, a judge must be:[5]
- a U.S. citizen;
- a state resident for at least three years;
- a resident of his or her circuit for at least one year;
- a state bar member; and
- under the age of 75.

Campbell ran against Sally Avera, Chester Scott and Melanie Mansell for Position 2 on the Polk County Circuit Court, which comprises the 12th Judicial District. This position was vacated by the retirement of Charles E. Luukinen.[6] Campbell won in a four-way race, earning 43.08 percent of the vote.[7]
