Martin P. Murphy is an acting justice of the Kings County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the 2nd Judicial District of New York. He has also served as a judge of the New York City Family Court since 1997. He was reappointed to this court in 2006 and 2017.[1][2]

Education

Murphy received his B.A. from Seton Hall University in 1971 and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1974.[1]

Career

Murphy began his career in 1974 as a criminal defense attorney for the Legal Aid Society. He became the attorney-in-charge of the Criminal Defense Division in 1985 and worked in this capacity until 1990. From 1990 to 1994, he was the N.Y.C. Director of Arrest to Arraignment. He then served as a deputy coordinator at the Office of the New York City Criminal Justice Coordinator until his judicial appointment in 1997.

Murphy began his judicial career in 1997 when he was appointed to the Family Court of New York City. He also served as a supervising judge of the New York City Criminal Court of New York County from 2000 to 2006. He was reappointed to the family court and was appointed an acting supreme court justice in 2006.[1]
