Marian C. Doherty is a judge for the New York City Housing Court of Bronx County, New York. She has served in this position since May 1996.[1][2] Doherty
Education
Doherty received her B.A. from the City University of New York, Herbert H. Lehman College in 1977 and her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1980.[1]
Career
Doherty began her career in 1981 as an associate of the law firm of Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald & Doyle. She then worked as a partner of the law fim of Doyle, Doherty & Fleishell, P.C. from 1985 until she was appointed to the housing court in 1996.[1]

Judges of the New York City Civil Court are each elected to 10-year terms in partisan contested elections, with one exception. Judges of the New York City Housing Court are appointed by the Chief Administrative Judge and serve five-year terms. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state and city resident, at least 18 years old and practice in the state for 10 years. This court has a mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.[4]
