Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Coleman's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Jobs & Economy: My parents moved to Indiana because that was the place you went when you are looking for good paying jobs. However, after years of neglect by politicians who are more concerned with pleasing the corporate special interest we’ve seen wages stagnate and jobs disappear.
  • Social Security & Medicare: We need to keep the promise we’ve made to those hardworking Hoosiers who’ve worked for decades paying into Social Security and Medicare with each paycheck. After years of hard work, seniors have the right to count on the safety nets for retirement that they’ve already paid for.
  • National Security: We need to do everything we can to ensure Americans are kept safe here and abroad. We should be tough and smart, by supporting coalition partners abroad to deny terrorist organizations like ISIS and Al Qaeda the funding they need to continue. We also need to partner with allies and technology companies to root out terrorism here at home – without ignoring religious freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.
  • Education: I would not be where I am today without the classes I took at IUSB which started me on my path to success. We need to reign in the high cost of a college degree so our kids can get the education they need without piling up a lifetime of debt.
  • Healthcare: Many Hoosiers have health insurance for the first time in their lives, and many more are now finding it easier to afford it. Obamacare has its flaws, and we should continue to make improvements. But we should also keep what’s working. I will work to improve the law, not just demolish it.
