Joseph G. Nesser is a judge for the Monroe County Family Court in New York. He joined the court in 2008, following his election in 2007. [1] Nesser won re-election in the general election on November 7, 2017.

Biography

Nesser received his B.S. from Saint Fisher College in 1979 and his J.D. from the Ohio Northern University College of Law in 1985. Nesser began his career in 1986 as an attorney with the law firm of Redmond & Prrinello. He then worked as a sole practitioner, running the Joseph G. Nesser Law Office from 1990 to 2007. In 2008, he joined the family court bench.[1]

Selection method

Judges of the New York Family Courts all serve 10-year terms but their method of selection varies based on location. Outside of New York City, they are selected through partisan contested elections. In New York City, they are appointed by the mayor. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state and county resident, at least 18 years old and practice in the state for 10 years. This court has a mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.[4]
