Gilbert P. Self is the Republican Place 3 judge on the 11 Circuit in Alabama. He was initially appointed to the court by Gov. Bob Riley in 2009 to fill the seat vacated by retired Judge Ned Suttle. He won election to a full six-year term in the 2010 general election as a Democrat. Self won re-election as a Republican in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1]
Biography
Self received his B.S. in 1985 from Auburn University. In 1988, he received his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. Prior to becoming a judge, Self was a private practice attorney at the firm Self, Smith, & Burdine.[2]

Self defeated Janice Keeton in the Democratic primary with 64.6 percent of the vote. He was elected after running unopposed in the general election.[5][6]
