Election results

As a result of the 2016 elections, Delaware maintained a Democratic trifecta, meaning that party holds the governorship as well as a majority in both the state Senate and state House. Congressman John Carney (D-Del.) won election to the governor's office. Democrats lost two seats in the state Senate for an even split with Republicans at 10 seats each. The Democratic lieutenant governor holds the tie-breaking vote in the chamber until a vacant seat is filled through a special election. No change occurred to the partisan balance of the state House with 25 Democratic seats to 16 Republican seats.

Delaware has two U.S. Senate seats and one U.S. House seat. The U.S. House seat, which was up for election in November, was won by Democrat Lisa Blunt Rochester.

Hillary Clinton won Delaware's three electoral votes in the 2016 general election for president. Barack Obama carried Delaware in both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. See also: Presidential election in Delaware, 2016.
