Six seats on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education were up for election on November 5, 2013. Rhonda Lennon Cheek, Thelma Byers-Bailey, Joyce Waddell, Tom Tate, Eric Davis and Paul Bailey won their respective district seats.
About the district
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is located in Charlotte, North Carolina and is the district for Mecklenburg County. Mecklenburg County has population of 969,031.[1]
Demographics
The county outperforms with the state averages in education and median household income. According to the 2010 Census, the percentage of residents with a high school degree (88.6%) is higher than the state of North Carolina (84.1%) and the percentage of residents over 25 with a bachelor's degree or higher is higher in Mecklenburg County (40.4%) compared to the state overall (26.5%). The median household income in Mecklenburg County is $55,994 compared to North Carolina's statewide median of $46,291.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. Three members are elected at large while the remaining six represent different regions in the district. Six seats were up for election on November 5, 2013 and the remaining three seats are up for election in November 3, 2015.

Six seats on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education were stake in the November election. Incumbents Rhonda Lennon Cheek, Richard McElrath, Joyce Waddell, Tom Tate, and Eric Davis sought re-election while Amelia Stinson-Wesley did not.
