“	Balancing the Budget: Continually running government deficits is simply dangerous. It’s selling out our children’s future because our elected officials were unable to do their job. This is a prime example of where both parties have dug into a position that prevents the problem from being solved. We can't simply raise taxes, anticipating we'll eventually get to a balance; and the math doesn’t work to be able to simply cut spending and balance the budget. Energy: I side with the 97% of scientists that have determined human activities are causing climate change. It’s irresponsible to refuse taking action. Cleaner technologies are rapidly becoming competitive with traditional sources. I support market-based solutions that offset revenue gains by lowering taxes paid by those least able to afford the impacts. Minimum Wage: A standard minimum wage across the country is not only dead in the water politically, but if you really stop to think – it doesn’t make sense. There simply is no single wage that works everywhere in our state, let alone our country. Too high of a wage hurts rural communities and farmers, while too low impacts urban residents. Health Care: Both political parties will try to spin the healthcare issue to imply that their position is the only option. It’s a false and dangerous narrative. Obamacare has had some successes, but it definitely has problems that need to be fixed. Simply repealing it without an actual replacement solution is irresponsible. The recent outline put out by Paul Ryan is a good start to the conversation, but until more details and studies are done to determine the impacts, my position will be to repair Obamacare. Education: The greatest factor that determines someone’s income and living standard is education. Unfortunately, a simple high school diploma can no longer guarantee a middle class job like it could 50 years ago. The cost of higher education is daunting, and student loans are crushing those trying to get started in their career. While Sanders laid out a bold vision for resolving that, it’s too expensive and bureaucratic to ever get through congress. Fortunately, there are alternatives.	”
