Team Avatar Tales is a one-shot anthology of stories set in the Avatar universe, depicting unseen events during and after the first series' run. The anthology collects the previously published Free Comic Book Day issues relating to Avatar: The Last Airbender together with a number of brand new stories. Originally scheduled for a September 2018 release, the anthology was delayed multiple times and eventually released on October 2, 2019, in comic book stores[1] and October 15 in mass markets.[2] A Library Edition that collects the stories from both Team Avatar Tales and The Lost Adventures was released by Dark Horse Comics on October 28, 2020,[3] and a omnibus version will be released on June 3, 2025.[4]

Journey along with Team Avatar as they rescue a pumpkin farmer waylaid by monsters, help an old rival with a hair-raising problem, and reflect on what it means to save the world. Featuring the work of Gene Luen Yang, Faith Erin Hicks, Carla Speed McNeil, Ron Koertge, Dave Scheidt, Sara Goetter, and more, this anthology features stories both hilarious and heartwarming.
This volume also includes the short stories, "Rebound," "Shells," and "Sisters," previously released for Free Comic Book Day and never before collected![5]

When she finds herself in a slump after her breakup with Zuko, Mai opens herself to the advances of a seemingly innocent Fire Nation teenager, only to discover that he is far from what his charming demeanor suggested.
The Substitute[]

While hiding in the Fire Nation, Sokka is craving some snacks and goes out in disguise to get some. While he is out, he gets mistaken for a teacher for hire at a Fire Nation school. Chaos ensues when the children begin to steal his snacks and accidentally rip off his fake mustache.

Sokka and Suki browse a seashell store, where Suki stands up to the store owner, who acts rudely toward a young girl shopping in the store. Suki teaches him a lesson in manners and is encouraged by Sokka to train the girl and her friends in self-defense, much as Avatar Kyoshi did for the original Kyoshi Warriors.

Sokka thinks on his achievements despite his inability to bend. While he thinks, he and Katara fight the pirate captain, and he meditates on his successes, like rescuing Suki from the Boiling Rock, or defeating the wolf spirit. As the rest of Team Avatar goes to sleep, Sokka remarks that he rarely does, because there are many things to do and only he can do them.[5]
Toph and The Boulder[]

This comic features The Boulder and Toph Beifong reuniting. Toph discovers that The Boulder has a pet crococat named The Pebble, which he keeps secret since it does not "fit [his] image". When the crococat sees Toph, he begins to yell loudly, causing Toph to question why The Pebble is making so much noise. The Boulder answers that The Pebble has an insatiable appetite, and no matter how much he feeds him, he continues to want more. Toph suggests taking The Pebble to the vet, causing both him and The Boulder to jump up in horror.[6]

While camping in the Earth Kingdom, Katara comes across a small village under attack by the Fire Nation. Two soldiers have a girl, Chio, and her father, Zenko, demanding they give them money. Katara defeats the soldiers and puts out the fire in the village. As thanks for saving them, Zenko invites Katara, Aang, and Sokka to their home for dinner, where Chio shows the group her origami creations.

Although she thinks the Kyoshi Warriors are amazing, Ty Lee feels down. Toph notices this and takes the chi-blocker to her old circus, where she reunites with her six identical sisters. She realizes she feels like part of a matched set, and resolves to leave. After defeating an enemy with the help of her sisters, she realizes the value of being part of a group, and decides to stay with the Kyoshi Warriors.
The Scarecrow[]

Set sometime after Imbalance, Team Avatar go out one night, where Momo wanders off into a pumpkin patch. Toph senses someone nearby, and the group are attacked by a strange figure with a sword. They manage to fight him off, and the man angrily accuses them of being monsters who want to steal his pumpkins. He explains that a bunch of tiny monsters with wings have been eating his pumpkins, and Katara offers to help him get to the bottom of it.
