"Your suspicions are confirmed. The Earth King's army now marches toward Yu Dao." |
— General Mak to Fire Lord Zuko.[1] |
General Mak was a general in the Fire Nation military following the Hundred Year War. At the time of the crisis in Yu Dao, he was stationed in the Fire Nation Capital as a military aide to Fire Lord Zuko.[1]
History[]
Crisis in Yu Dao[]
After Zuko withdrew from the Harmony Restoration Movement, he sent spies to the Earth Kingdom, who reported to General Mak. The spies informed the general that Earth King Kuei's forces were marching toward Yu Dao, and he passed this information on to the Fire Lord, which prompted Zuko to sail with a fleet of several warships toward the colony.[1]
Child abductions in the capital of the Fire Nation[]
During the Kemurikage incident, General Mak reported on the number of kidnapped children as well as the growing civil unrest to Fire Lord Zuko. After being informed of Ukano's possible ties to the dark spirit impostors, the Fire Lord ordered Mak to seal off the capital city and to search through any citizen's home to find those connected to the Safe Nation Society. As the general conducted his search, he assured the people of the capital that Zuko had their best interest at heart. When the Safe Nation Society arrived to start another protest, General Mak placed them all under arrest, prompting further dissent from the bystanders. The protest soon escalated into a riot, though Mak's Fire Army soldiers managed to quell the angry mob and apprehend most of Ukano's militia. He later delivered the prisoners to the Capital City Prison, where he informed Mai that her father managed to escape capture once again. After the situation was resolved, General Mak stood at Zuko's side during his declaration to be a better Fire Lord to his people.[2]
Personality[]
Mak was a calm and thoughtful general whose orders showed concern for the safety of his compatriots and he proceeded with the greatest possible courtesy. He completed the tasks assigned to him without further ado and proceeded in a planned manner. He had no objection and if he had anything to comment on, it was a broader point about an existing order. Mak tried to be as moderate as possible in his tasks, no matter how drastic and unpleasant they were for his compatriots. He never seemed to overdo it and was cautious, and he did not use obvious and unnecessary violence against his opponents.[1][2]
