Far south Austin’s revered barbecue and Tex-Mex truck Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ is moving into its first physical restaurant this year. The new location will be found in Buda as part of mixed-use development Buda Mill & Grain sometime this year at 306 South Main Street.
Opening a physical restaurant had always been a goal of pitmaster Miguel Vidal. In fact, the current 11500 Menchaca Road location was supposed to house a restaurant that had been long in the works since 2017, but that didn’t happen. They did build out a patio for outdoor dining, but still served from the food truck.
Buda Mill & Grain’s Instagram details that Valentina’s restaurant will be found in the large black barn building. Other restaurants currently found in the development include sliced cake bakery Sweet Cakes 4 U, cafe and bar Nate’s Coffee & Cocktails, Cajun and Creole restaurant Mud Bugs, and speciality market Los Olivos.
Vidal is keeping busy too: the truck is opening a location within Austin’s first Major League Soccer stadium this year, the Q2 stadium for the Austin FC team.
Valentina’s opened in 2013, parked at West Sixth truck Star Bar, and then relocated to Brodie Lane in 2015, followed by Menchaca Road in 2017. They operated a taco-focused truck Violet Taco from 2015 to 2017.
