The new bar taking over downtown Austin whiskey spot the Blackheart is now open. Augustine can be found at 86 Rainey Street. It looks like the bar opened at the end of February, just in time for South by Southwest where it served as one of the festival’s satellite hubs.

The bar’s light and worn wood paneling is now covered in blue-green paint with dark trimmings. Inside there’s cheetah-print wallpaper and small light fixtures over the bar. Out in the back, the stage remains and there’s astro turf fencing. For drinks, there are cocktails and beers.

Behind Augustine is the Goodmates LLC, as previously reported by Chronicle, which includes members of another Rainey Street bar Lucille Patio Lounge.

Blackheart co-owner Jeremy Murray wasn’t able to renew the bar’s lease in 2018 after six years of operation. It was under the 1886 Management group, which also runs East Austin bar Kitty Cohen’s and Dripping Springs restaurant and bar Proof and Cooper.

Likewise, another new Rainey Street bar popped up just in time for SXSW nearby: Stagger Lee, which took over the old No Va restaurant and bar space across the street at 87 Rainey Street.
