Fans of Allandale deli spot Republic of Sandwich should rejoice. Even though shop shuttered last winter, it’s coming back, although in a different form and new name and location. Capitol Sandwich makes its debut tomorrow, Thursday, March 29, as a trailer on 2308 Hancock Drive.
It's safe to expect the same takes on with what Capitol pegs as Philadelphia-style sandwiches full of of roast beef and pork, pastrami, ham, and vegetarian-friendly ones, too. It’ll also serve up bagels, breakfast tacos, sides, and sodas. Update, March 31: A reader pointed out that Republic co-founder Pete O'Donnell is no longer with Capitol, which means Capitol’s menu isn’t Philadelphia-influenced.
Chef Thomas Gardner opened Republic of Sandwich out on Hancock Drive in fall of 2014. It closed in December 2016, and that address is now home to Poke Poke’s second Austin location.
The new Capitol Sandwich will include a covered patio for on-the-spot dining. It shares with gamer haven Pat's Games. Its hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekends.
