Have you heard of the butter board trend?
It's the new and improved way of doing a charcuterie board, but it's kicked up a notch since the board is slathered with flavored butter and served basically as a butter board charcuterie. You and your guests are going to really love this sweet butter board recipe.
Yes, I know, it's another TikTok trend... the butter board TikTok trend. But this one is really good, especially if you love butter (like me). So what is a butter board anyway? It's an extremely versatile charcuterie board that is slathered with semi softened butter and toppings, and served with delicious bread for dipping.
There really is no limit to the diversity of this dish, you can have a savory butter board, or like my recipe for a sweet butter board here. This is the perfect holiday butter board since it is made with maple cinnamon butter and topped with things like candied pecans and served with Wildgrain sourdough bread from their holiday box.
🧈 Ingredients
The ingredients for this sweet honey butter board with cinnamon are:
- sourdough bread
- apple slices
- high quality butter (I use salted butter)
- cinnamon
- maple syrup
- cinnamon sugar pecan pieces
For the cinnamon sugar pecan pieces, you can either buy those in the salad toppings section of your local grocery store, or you can make these quick and easy stovetop candied pecans. That recipe takes 6-7 minutes, it's really easy!
Of course you can customize butter board toppings to your liking by adding or omitting ingredients.
🔪 Instructions
For the butter board spread, make sure your butter is at room temperature. Place the butter in a medium size mixing bowl and add the ground cinnamon and maple syrup. With a fork, mix the butter with the ingredients until it is all combined together.
With an icing spatula or butter knife, spread the softened and flavored butter onto a charcuterie board or cutting board (see Top top* section below). Once you have it spread evenly, sprinkle the dried cranberries and the candied pecans on top. You can also drizzle it with another tablespoon or two of maple syrup.
Now, for the different things you can use to dip in the butter, I really enjoyed using sourdough bread from Wildgrain. I particularly used the cranberry pecan bread and it was amazing. You can also use pretzels, crackers and apple slices. The apple slices were quite addictive actually!
💭 Top tip
Learn from my mistakes please! The first time I made a butter board, I spread the butter straight onto the wood cutting board. My cutting board is not sealed, so all of the oil from the butter soaked into my board and made a semi-permanent wet spot. I learned my lesson and the next time I put a piece of wax paper down before spreading the butter and it helped alot!

🍽 Equipment
Since making butter boards is quite simple, you really do need to focus on quality of ingredients used. I always use high quality Saigon cinnamon. The moment you open the package and smell it, you immediately are converted forever and know that your store bought cinnamon has been very inferior your whole life.
