This article from The Brookings Institution examines a draft report from the United Nations’ High-Level Advisory Body on AI. According to the article, “one proposed function is a ‘policy forum’ of member states to ‘foster interoperable governance approaches,’ including safety standards, rights, and norms that would ‘set the framework for global cooperation.’ To drive soft law development, the report suggests a standards exchange that would operate not just as a resource on the bottom-up work of international standards bodies, but as a body to evaluate the standards themselves and identify where additional standards are needed.”

Co-authored by ANSI's Mary Saunders and Atlantic Council Geotech Center senior director Lloyd Whitman, this article explores the need for global consensus standards and measurement methods to help address the effects of climate change and implement a green transition agenda.
