Sky Elements was a drone group from Season 19 of America's Got Talent. They finished the competition in 3rd place.

Background[]

Sky Elements formed in December 2020, after a grieving Preston Ward saw his first drone show six months after the passing of his daughter Briley Rose in June 2020. Preston left his career as a lawyer and decided that he wanted to figure out how he could achieve what he had seen at the drone show he saw and teamed up with a group of his friends to co-found Sky Elements alongside founder Rick Boss.

Based in Texas, Sky Elements came to "AGT" with an epic drone show experience that transformed the sky and captivated the audience with its innovative storytelling. Their performance wowed judge Simon Cowell so much that he ended up giving the group a second Golden Buzzer, leading to a first-ever rule change that allowed for more Golden Buzzers this season.

As pioneers in professional drone shows, Sky Elements use their collective expertise in programming, piloting and animating to tell captivating stories and showcase the limitless potential of drone technology. With backgrounds ranging from law to computer systems, they are self-taught and have honed their skills through countless hours of practice and teamwork.

The group chose "AGT" to spotlight their innovation and inspire others in STEM fields, aiming to revolutionise public perception of drone shows beyond mere displays. Winning would not only validate their dedication but also allow them to tour the U.S., introducing drone art to new audiences and donating to charity in memory of their founding member's late daughter. With creativity, passion and a commitment to pushing boundaries, they're ready to let America decide their fate.

Audition[]

Sky Elements' audition in Episode 1902 consisted of a light-up drone show telling their own creative story inspired by the 1969 Moon Landing set to "Also sprach Zarathustra" from 2001: A Space Odyssey and Sara James' version of Elton John's "Rocket Man". Extremely impressed with their performance, Simon Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer for the second time, sending the group directly to the live shows.

Quarterfinals[]

Sky Elements' Quarterfinal performance in Episode 1911 consisted of a light-up drone show with a circus theme featuring the judges as various performers set to Queen's "The Show Must Go On" and Katy Perry's "Firework". Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell gave them standing ovations. They received enough votes to enter the top 5 in Episode 1912 instead of Legión, and advanced to the Semifinals along with Alex Sampson and Young-Min instead of Ashlee Montague and Bboy Samuka.

Semifinals[]

Sky Elements' Semifinal performance in Episode 1917 consisted of a light-up drone show set to Lily Meola's "Butterfly" in tribute to the passing of their co-founder Preston Ward’s daughter Briley Rose who passed away in 2020. Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell gave them standing ovations. They received enough votes to advance to the Finals in Episode 1918 instead of Kelsey Jane.

Finals[]

Sky Elements' Final performance in Episode 1919 consisted of a light-up drone show telling the story of the American dream set to P!nk’s cover of "A Million Dreams" from The Greatest Showman. Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell gave them standing ovations.

Finale[]

In the Episode 1920 finale, Sky Elements did the introduction to the finale through a light-up drone show set to George Michael's "Freedom! '90", leading into Detroit Youth Choir's performance of Panic! At The Disco's "High Hopes". They received enough votes to enter the top 5 instead of Brent Street. They finished in 3rd place, ahead of Solange Kardinaly and Learnmore Jonasi, but behind Richard Goodall and Roni Sagi & Rhythm.

Trivia[]

  • They are the first drone act to advance to the live shows.
  • Because the Golden Buzzer was hit outdoors, golden fireworks were set off instead of the traditional confetti drop.
  • They were the second drone act to receive Simon’s golden buzzer, following Verge Aero on AGT: Extreme.
  • They are the only act not to get a 4 judge standing ovation in Episode 1919 as Howie Mandel did not ovate their performance like he had done with every other act who performed in the Finals.
  • Sky Elements are Simon's highest placing golden buzzer act to date, finishing in 3rd place overall.
