NASA Graduate Student Researchers Project (GSRP)

Description

The Graduate Student Researchers Program (GSRP) is a research based fellowship program. It supports disciplines that are directly related to the space and aeronautics research and development mission of NASA.

Award

The total award is $30,000.The award includes a student stipend, a student allowance, and a university allowance.

Eligibility

  • All applicants must be currently enrolled or admitted as a full-time graduate student in an accredited U.S. college or university.

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

  • Students may apply at any time during their graduate program, or prior to receiving their baccalaureate degree, provided they have been accepted to an accredited graduate program at a U.S. college or university.

  • All applicants must have a faculty adviser from the institution where they plan to receive their graduate degree.

 

DOD National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship

Description

The National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship is a highly competitive, portable fellowship that is awarded to U.S. citizens and nationals who intend to pursue graduate study in one of the 15 supported disciplines.

Award

The DoD will pay the fellow's full tuition and required fees (not to include room and board). In addition, fellows receive a stipend for 12-month tenures.

All Fellows, starting with the 2015 Class will receive a total of $102,000.00 in stipend funds over the course of their 36-month program tenure.  Stipends are prorated monthly based on a 12-month academic year.

The NDSEG Fellowship Program will also pay for the medical insurance coverage offered through the institution, up to a total value of $1,000 per year.

Eligibility

  • The NDSEG Fellowship Program is open only to applicants who are citizens or nationals of the United States.

  • Your field of study must fit under one of the 15 supported disciplines.

  • NDSEG Fellowships are intended for students at or near the beginning of their doctoral studies in science or engineering.

  • You must intend to pursue a doctoral degree in order to be eligible for NDSEG Fellowship support.

  • NDSEG Fellows must be enrolled full-time and must be pursuing graduate study at a U.S. institution; the NDSEG Fellowship does not pay for tuition at any non-U.S. institution.

 

DOD Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART)

Description

The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion.

Award

  • Full tuition and education related fees (does not include items such as meal plans, housing, or parking)
  • Stipend paid at a rate of $25,000 - $38,000 depending on degree pursuing (may be prorated depending on award length)
  • Summer research internships
  • Health Insurance reimbursement allowance up to $1,200 per calendar year
  • Miscellaneous Supplies Allowance of $1,000 per academic year
  • Mentoring
  • Employment placement after graduation

Eligibility

  • a U.S. citizen at time of application,
  • 18 years of age or older as of August 1, 2012,
  • able to participate in summer internships at DoD laboratories,
  • willing to accept post-graduate employment with the DoD,
  • a student in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (as calculated by the SMART application) and,
  • pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the disciplines listed on the About SMART page.

 

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)

Description

The National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) helps ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science and engineering in the United States and reinforces its diversity. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions.

Award

Three years of support

- $34,000 annual stipend

- $12,000 cost-of-education allowance

- International research and professional development opportunities

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants:

  • Are a US citizen, US national or permanent resident, and

  • be in a research-focused Master's or Ph.D. program in an NSF-supported field

  • be enrolled in an eligible program at an accredited United States graduate institution by Fall 2012

  • have completed no more than twelve months of full-time graduate study (or the equivalent)

  • meet all other eligibility requirements as set forth in the current Program Solicitation

 

Zonta-Amelia Earhart Fellowship Program

Description

The Amelia Earhart Fellowship program helps talented women, pursuing advanced studies in the typically male-dominated fields of aerospace-related sciences and engineering, achieve their educational goals. The Fellowship enables these women to invest in state-of-the-art computers to conduct their research, purchase expensive books and resource materials, and participate in specialized studies around the globe.

Award

The Fellowship of US $10,000, awarded to 35 Fellows around the globe each year, may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees in these fields.

Eligibility

Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record in the field of aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering are eligible.

 

American Society for Composites PHD Research Scholarship

Description

The mission of the American Society for Composites (ASC) is to provide a communication forum for the engineering and scientific community in composite materials, and to provide the growth of knowledge from interdisciplinary engineering and scientific research in composite materials. In keeping with this mission, ASC is pleased to announce an annual graduate student research scholarship grant program for formally enrolled Ph.D. candidates in engineering or science whose dissertation research is focused on some aspect of composite materials.

Award

Up to four awards will be given, each consisting of two parts. The first part is a grant of $1,000 to the student to support the student's research. The second part is a reimbursement of travel expenses of up to $1,250 to help the student attend the annual ASC Technical Conference and accept the award at the conference banquet. ASC will also grant to the student a waiver of the conference registration fee, a free proceedings DVD, and a banquet ticket.

Eligibility

Formally enrolled Ph.D. candidates in engineering or science whose dissertation research is focused on some aspect of composite materials.

 

National Research Council of the National Academies

Description

The Fellowships Office (FO) of the National Academies administers predoctoral, postdoctoral, and senior fellowship awards on behalf of government and private/foundation sponsors; these fellowship awards play an important role in the career development of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers and scholars for the academic, federal, industrial and international workforce both in the U.S. and internationally.

Award

These awards include generous stipends ranging from $42,000-$75,000 per year for recent Ph.D. recipients, and higher for additional experience and graduate entry level stipends beginning at $30,000.

Eligibility

Eligibility varies by sponsoring laboratory and some laboratories have citizenship restrictions. To determine your eligibility, you must check two different sections of the website. First, look at general eligibility criteria, which are criteria that pertain to every Associateship opportunity. If you are eligible under the general eligibility criteria, check on the specific research opportunity you are interested in for opportunity-specific eligibility requirements.

 

DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF)

Description

The Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) program provides outstanding benefits and opportunities to students pursuing doctoral degrees in fields of study that use high performance computing to solve complex science and engineering problems.

Award

  • A yearly stipend of $36,000

  • Payment of full tuition and required fees during the appointment period (at any accredited U.S. university)

  • $5,000 academic allowance in the first fellowship year

  • $1,000 academic allowance each renewed year

  • 12-week research practicum

  • Renewable up to four years

Eligibility

The DOE CSGF is open to U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens who are planning full-time, uninterrupted study toward a Ph.D. at an accredited U.S. university. Senior undergraduate and first and second year graduate students in engineering and in the physical, computer, mathematical or life sciences are eligible to apply for the program. Fellowship support is limited to four years and must be renewed each year.

During the fellowship period, fellows are required to be enrolled as full-time graduate students at an accredited U.S. college or university and conduct research in areas of interest to the DOE. The summer should be spent conducting full-time research related to the completion of one's degree program, enrolled in classes or on a practicum assignment.
