@Canley, Thierry Caro, Dhx1, Mattinbgn: Please can you hold off on the Mix'n'matching of this set for a bit. I made an error in the 5th digit, switching all the 1's for 2's (corrected above). I will go through and fix the 70 we've done so far that this affects, but will then need to upload a new Mix'n'match set. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your help. --99of9 (talk) 00:48, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Canley, Thierry Caro, Dhx1, Mattinbgn, Kerry Raymond: The replacement set is now ready here. --99of9 (talk) 05:04, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

https://w.wiki/UzM a map coloured by region, so points in the wrong region stand out. --99of9 (talk) 13:39, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

https://w.wiki/WmD shows items which ended up with two very different coordinates, possibly due to mis-matching. --99of9 (talk) 01:25, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GNB site

[edit]

Just noticed that the NSW Geographical Names Board seems to have changed its site breaking the old URL formatter, and are using completely different identifiers for place names: for example Awaba (Q4829653) has a Geographical Names Board of NSW ID (P3517) of "TRQlXt", but the page for that location is now https://proposals.gnb.nsw.gov.au/public/geonames/976e623e-da20-4884-acf5-61d7a007a573 . The new search page is here: https://proposals.gnb.nsw.gov.au/public/geonames/search . They still offer a download of the place names data, but the reference column is blank and there seem to be no other identifiers, so might take some digging to find a way to migrate the data. --Canley (talk) 14:12, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Canley: Annoying eh? I'm on other things at the moment, but if things stay the way they are now, I will probably contact them. --99of9 (talk) 14:49, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Came here to say the same thing? I would have thought it's better to be using the reference number. This is still present in the bulk data download. Why aren't we using the reference number? --AndrewHarvey4 (talk) 03:50, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the web archive URL doesn't seem to work. Why not use the proper GNB URL with its proper identifiers? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 23:53, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael Bednarek: I think the archive may work for some pages, but their format switch has certainly reduced the value of this current property. For the new format, what you call "proper identifiers", we will need a new property. Let's propose one soon. --99of9 (talk) 01:04, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AndrewHarvey4: It's good that the reference number is still of some value, but annoying that it can no longer be used to construct a URL. The identifier format we currently have can be mapped 1:1 to the reference numbers (using the scheme in the section above). We used this format so we could make links, but I agree that we may want to explicitly convert for users, e.g. qualified by object named as (P1932) -> ref_num. This conversion could be done in bulk with QuickStatements. --99of9 (talk) 01:21, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Canley: It looks like the "version" bit of the new UUID is set to 4 w:Universally_unique_identifier#Version_4_(random), so most of the other bits are meant to be set randomly. So that makes it hard to unhash! --99of9 (talk) 10:15, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
