Chanel Spring 2012: Chanel Blush Horizon de Chanel

Chanel Blush Horizon de Chanel ($58.00 for 0.53 oz.) is a new and limited blush for springtime. It’s described as an “elegant highlighting face powder” with “subtle gradations of rose, coral, and peach.” Though Chanel says you can apply them on their own or applied together, you’ll tend to use at least a few strips at a time, as they are very skinny and won’t accommodate most blush brushes in just one of those little strips!

If you stay on the upper half, you’ll get a pinker look, and if you stay on the bottom half, you’ll get a peachier look. When you swirl, it’s a pink-coral with a peachy sheen. Tarina Tarantino Parasol is a more pigmented pink-coral. MAC Stunner doesn’t really have any coral to it, but it is similar to the upper portion of this blush. Chanel Pink Cloud is similar but less pink and subtler on. Benefit Bella Bamba is pinker but with a light hand, similar enough on.

At first glance, this was very reminiscent of Guerlain’s Blush G Serie Noire, and for the most part, it is. The strips in this product are much, much skinnier, so it’s difficult to focus on particular shades, but the shades of each strip are very similar to Blush G. Chanel’s doesn’t have the darker orange shade (which you’ll find at the top of Blush G), but everything else is similar, so the end result can be similar. If you tend to prefer a darker, more coral blush, then you’ll prefer the Blush G, since you have that darker orange shade to yield those results. Chanel’s is more of a pink-coral to pink-peach. The other major difference is Guerlain’s has a stronger golden sheen, while Chanel’s appears a bit softer. Blush G has more pigmentation overall, due to that darker orange shade, and Chanel’s is less intense. If you missed out on Blush G, this is a good substitute, though.

The texture is really nice–soft, smooth–and the finish looks lovely on the skin, as it’s luminous and glowy without being frosted or emphasizing pores or imperfections on the skin.  Given that it’s not supposed to deliver a lot of color, it’s true-to-form; it gives a subtle flush but tends to yield more luminosity.  I expect on fairer skin tones, you’ll see this as more of a blush and highlighter combination, while deeper skin tones will find it works mostly as a highlighter.  A nice bonus is–despite the high price tag–it’s a good value, because it’s over half an ounce of product (most blushes are between 0.15 to 0.30 oz.). On me, it wore for around seven hours and started to fade; it was noticeably faded after nine hours.

It’s beautiful, the stripes reminds me of a summer deckchair! I’m guessing with conversion it will work out £40+ over here so I might have to set my sights a little lower.

How does this product compare to Guerlain Parure de Nuit Pressed Powder & Blush for it’s shimmer/glow? Which one has more? Thank you. P.S. You look stunningly natural in that photo.

THANK YOU CHRISTINE! I was crossing my fingers hoping you’d review this sometime today. Hitting the stores for this as soon as it stops raining!

I got this as a christmas present and it is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I love Chanel blushers but this one looks so natural an luminous. I LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I must say though its become sort of annoying buying a collection a gazillion months before its season. I find I don’t get enough time to enjoy the products I am buying. I bought this product before christmas time on a local counter and it had been released at least a week before that online – sometime early December. This collection is designed for spring which is not any time soon! Now I have to store it away and try not to give into the temptation of using it until spring … and by that time I will probably have bought the summer collection and will have come full circle hiding my products from myself yet again.

I bought this blush and many other things from the Spring collection and the Knightsbridge collection as soon as they hit Chanel.com! I am totally using this blush now and not waiting until Spring! Winter can get so “blah” and I love the gorgeous sunset colors in this collection. They make me happy 🙂

I completely agree, Adriana. I’m finally getting to dig in to my new stuff (and there’s A LOT) and here I am ordering a spring blush. Just couldn’t pass this one up, though. So beautiful. Thanks for the review Christine.

Hi Christine, I know you said darker skin tones would probably use it more as a highlighter, do you think with an NC42 it would lean more that way or could I try it as a blush? Thanks!

Katherine Avatar

Thank you for the swatch! I’ll be picking this up for sure. What lip are you wearing in the picture please? I looked to see if you had posted but I might have missed it.

Christine, I am really interested in this but kind of wary of shelling that much on a single item. How close is the colour to the lighter side of MAC Mighty Aphrodite- it looks similar…

Your entire look is absolutely fabulous. What a gorgeous combination on you! One quick question, would you mind sharing what blush brush you use? Whatever you use seems to apply flawlessly! Thanks!

This color is stunning on you, Christine: soft, feminin, classically springtime. It is another finely milled, super soft, highly pigmented, soft glow powder from Italy. It is similar in texture and pigmentation to Chanel’s hit from last summer–Bronze Rosé I hope we see more of these beauties from Chanel. Italy is definitely producing some fantastic powders for Chanel.

I’m so glad you love the blush! It looks amazing on you! I picked up quite a few items from this collection, the blush and eye quad included, and have been LOVING them! My go-to quick and easy spring-type look has been wearing the perfection lumiere foundation, an inky black mascara, this blush, and either the “bagatelle” glossimer or the “flirt” rouge coco shine. 😀

I agree with the other posts, Christine~that blush/lipstick combo looks perfect on you! You said that you didn’t like the formula very much of that lipstick; is there a similar color out there with a better formula? People are already talking about your wedding makeup. We would all love to see it afterward if it’s not too personal for you to share.

Mallory Avatar

oh my goodness! that blush looks beautiful and it looks GORGEOUS on you.
but it might not look good on me..
do you think it’s worth the money to try? /:

Thanks for the review. It is so gorgeous! I’ve just started the process of re-building my MAC collection now that my kids are old enough to know better than to throw my makeup in the toilet. 😉 But I think that instead of buying a few different shades of MAC, I may splurge on this one given that it is so generous in size and versatile. (How am I doing at justifying the price tag? lol!)
By the way – thank you for your reviews and swatches – they have been very helpful to me in the past few weeks!

Diana Avatar

I just picked this up today. I’m on the fairer side so this works well as both a blush and a highlighter, like you said. I’m enjoying it a lot so far, like the formula. I really like the way this looks on you too, Christine!

Sue Avatar

Please wear this blush on your wedding day. You look so radiant with it! It’s probably my favorite blush on you I’ve seen in months and months and months 🙂

Gina Avatar

Hi, could you tell me the name or number of the shade that you’re wearing on the lips in the last photo? It looks beautiful on you and I’m in love with it!

Christine! I really want your opinion this time! I’m not a blush fiend and only owned NARS Organsm and Deep Throat, is this one has enough difference from the said two NARS blushes and hence worth purchasing? I’m struggling between this one and NARS Oasis! I want a new blush for new year!!

Pamela Avatar

Christine – just ordered thru Nordstrom. I clicked thru your site – so, I hope you get the ‘credit” – your site has saved me money by preventing multiple purchases, AND I’ve gotten some GREAT things I had not heard about. Thank you!! Your research and attention to detail are superb, and I really enjoy reading your columns! Can’t wait for my blush, and I got a lipstick, too (giggle). I have dark-ish skin (Russian/Hungarian heritage, but soooo wanted this!! It looks GREAT on you!!

I am in love with this blush, truly, but I am really curious how it compares to the Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks. I want to buy it but not if they are comparable products- especially, since the shimmer bricks are cheaper. Thank you for any help 🙂

Hi Christine. I’ve recently bought this ’cause I missed Dior Coral Riviera and I thought this could be a good alternative paired with…and this is my question: Dior Rose diamond or Amber? My skin tone is similar to yours (I’m Spanish)and I’m looking for your exact look on your Dior Bronze Harmony blush in Coral Riviera post. Thanks a lot!

Thank you very much Christine. You can’t imagine how useful your reviews and tutorials are for people like me who live in a country where it’s nearly impossible to swatch some brands and we literally depend on others experiences. Thank God I discovered both Temptalia and ebay…
Thank you very much for your work and for being my muse, you really inspire me.

hi!
Unfortunately, this is sold out everywhere 🙁 no gurantee 🙁 sad.
I know you already mentioned about Tarina Tarantino in Parasol, but would you still recommend Parasol? What is the most difference between two? Looks like Parasol is more pigmented, but if I lightly blend it, will I get a same result as Horizon Blush? Let me know! Thank you, and I lovelovelovelove your chanel look :)xoxo
