Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position in the Theory of Condensed Matter group, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. The post will involve research in the general area of quantum many-body theory within the group of Prof N.R. Cooper. The post is for a duration of 2 years, with the possibility to extend to a further third year. A starting date is anticipated in September 2023 but is flexible.

The role holder will work on the theory of quantum many-body systems. Areas of current interest within the group include topological phases of matter, light-matter interactions, far-from-equilibrium quantum dynamics and open quantum systems. Much of the work within the group is motivated by experimental developments. The group benefits from having a wide network of experimental collaborators and colleagues working on electronic materials, cold atomic/molecular gases, and photonic systems. The role holder will be able to work closely with Prof. Cooper and will be given significant opportunities to help set the research directions and to establish an independent research profile.

These fellowships are competitive and often require the explicit support of a host institution. If you feel qualified to apply and would like to discuss the possibility, please contact your prospective host advisor. For those awards intended for experienced postdocs to lead their own research groups, please contact the TCM staff member to whom your research is most closely linked.

Please be sure to contact a member of the TCM group well in advance of the deadlines stated on these external pages. Advance notice is needed for the group to determine whom it can offer to host, and also to ensure any application meets the (earlier) internal University deadlines. These fellowships are competitive and the group will only support the strongest applicants. While the group tries to be flexible, we may not be able to give full consideration to expressions of interests received less than two months prior to the closing date of the call.

Post-doctoral Fellowships

Postdoctoral Fellowships in AI (at Imperial College, London)

Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, and his wife Wendy Schmidt, have agreed to fund 130 years worth of Postdoctoral Fellowships at Imperial College on the topic of "AI in Science". The Fellows can work on whatever interests them, but applications of AI to condensed matter physics, materials science, or quantum chemistry are most welcome. Please note that almost all of the appointments are limited to two years duration.
