As Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence, we’re at the forefront of developing and supporting talented athletes fulfil their sporting and academic potential.

We’ve produced some of the some of the finest British and Scottish talent in history as well as supporting elite athletes from all over the world. Our athletes have successfully competed at the Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games, Wimbledon, The Masters and British Open to name a few.

University of Stirling's Sports Scholarship Programme

The University's Sports Scholarship Programme is one of the largest high-performance sports programmes in the UK.

We’ve supported more than 1,000 athletes since its inception in 1981.

Our sporting success

  • 13 medals from 22 Olympians and 7 Paralympians.
  • We had 20 athletes compete at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and 9 at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
  • We are the only UK institution to have played – and won – in NCAA competition.
  • A record number of University of Stirling athletes won 18 medals at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
  • Our scholar-athletes have also competed at major sports competitions such as Wimbledon, The Open, The AIG Women’s Open and The Masters.

Our sport scholarships offer tailored support packages for student athletes incorporating coaching, state-of-the-art facilities, performance mentoring and access to the latest innovations in sport research. We can help you combine flexible degree study with your success in competing at the highest levels of sport.

We work with academic colleagues and national governing bodies to provide exciting research opportunities within our world-class performance sport environment.

UK and international sports scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students from England, Wales, Northern Ireland or from outside the EU who meet both the sport-specific and academic qualification criteria.
