Second Session of the COAG Sub-Committee on Livestock to focus on gender issues in livestock production

GASL partners, the Government of Kenya,  the Federal Office for Agriculture Switzerland (FOAG) and Anthra will host a side event at the Second Session of the COAG Sub-Committee on Livestock. Titled “Women & Sustainable Livestock Transformation: Advancing the Agenda for Sustainable Development”, the event will focus on gender issues in livestock production.

Location: FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy. 

The Sub-Committee on Livestock has the mandate to discuss and build consensus on livestock issues and priorities, and advise COAG, and through it, the FAO Council and the FAO Conference, on technical and policy programmes and activities needed to optimize the contribution of livestock, including in poverty alleviation, food security and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods and the realization of the 2030 Agenda.

The event will focus on:

  1. Gender integration: empowering women is crucial to transforming the livestock sector and achieving sustainable development.
  2. Inclusive approach: advocate for an inclusive, gender-sensitive, multi-stakeholder approach for effective program design and implementation.
  3. Our ambition: provide stakeholders and policy advisors with the information and options needed to incorporate gender dimensions into their investments, programming priorities and policy development.
