Sized relative to the cross-dowel, each cap has a boss on the underside for registration in the hole drilled for the cross-dowel; a set screw (two are supplied in 1/4\" and 5/16\" lengths) mounts into 8-32 threaded holes in the cross-dowel and the underside of the cap, fastening the cap in place. The diameter of each cap is about 1/8\" larger than the stated diameter of the cross-dowel.
