Mid century modern furniture reproductions

Alphaville is no longer in business. They had quality affordable replicas.

I am afraid I will order from the wrong on-line company.

Please help!

I can't comment on those particular pieces, but I do have a cherry bed and dresser from the Grove collection in my kid's room. It's pretty nice quality--good wood, good assembly. It's solid wood, so if you're looking for bookmatched grain, this isn't what you want. In other words, it's as nice as it looks in the catalog, with no surprises. :)

I agree with you. Keep the chair. It will work very nicely with your style. You can reupholster it in some soft leathers available. I think some of your comfort comes from the somewhat flattened stuffing. If reupholstered, most likely, it will be less resilient and not as comfy at first. A little stiffer. The scale of your chair tends to be larger and bulkier than a lot of true MCM and more comfortable. If you are keeping this chair, I would shop for furniture that has some of the MCM characteristics. The look, the lines the shapes, the materials. Also ... When deciding furniture purchases to add with this chair, a consideration would be the proximity of the chair to other new pieces in the room. If you place this chair too close to true MCM furniture, it might tend to seem out of scale. So, that becomes a possible reason to go along with the wife or ... you start searching for similar MCM designs ...... finding a scale of new furniture, a little farther away from the true MCM in scale.

MCM is timeless but you are the only person who can determine whether you love the dining set for your own home. What would you be getting for a dining set if you didn't get the MCM? Whatever you get - unless it is cheap disposable crap - is probably going to be something you will live with for many years as dining sets tend to last longer than sofas and good ones are a significant cost. Whatever you get is not going to be "trendy" in ten years or even five years. If you love it now you will love it then. I made some design mistakes when I furnished my first adult place but those mistakes were ironically when I went with then current design trends whereas stuff that I bought at the same time which spoke to what I really loved are still styles which I love. I remodeled recently and with the help of my designer also completely redecorated. I kept some things which I still loved and worked in my space as I wanted it to be and got rid of the rest. I refinished an Art Deco bedroom suite because I still liked it. As others have posted, it is not cheap but I liked it as much as I would have liked other choices in the bedroom and I didn't keep all of the components of the suite - only the armoire and bureau - the vanity was turned into two night stands and I have a lovely upholstered bed instead of the original bed.

Thank you so much, Beverly and decoenthusiast! The house is under renovation so I don’t have access to clean photos but here is some info about the room: It’s north-facing, and you see the room from the front entrance (front door is south facing). The back wall is an outside wall to the backyard and there is a fireplace and a ledge along a giant window, so there is really only 1 wall in the living room & that’s where the piano goes. This sitting/living room is half of a great room that also has our “formal” dining room—it has a 96” cherry live edge table & 8 walnut Knoll Nakashima chairs. The table is perpendicular to the backyard, with a big sliding glass door. The fireplace is in between the sliding door and the big window. Behind the table, against a wall that faces the piano wall, is a walnut sideboard that we are keeping. There is a light fixture over the table that is also staying. Thinking that the sofa will go parallel to the dining table and piano, (perpendicular to the windows & fireplace) and hoping to squeeze the a mid century style recliner (black leather & walnut) between the window & the piano, & 1 or 2 swivel chairs facing the backyard window. The space for the just the living portion is 10 feet wide (the wall against which the piano goes) by 13.5 feet long. The dining room opens to the kitchen which is getting redone. Oak floors will continue & we’ll have a walnut floor to ceiling cabinet along the wall that is the kitchen side of the foyer. The kitchen faces south & has 2 big windows to the front yard…dishwasher, sink, lower cabinets along the window wall in SW Gale Force (a dark navy w hint of teal). In the kitchen next to the walnut cab we’ll have an oval (37x60”) walnut table w black iron cylinder base. Chairs tbd. Cabinets around the rest of the room all same navy. Island (60x70”) will be in the middle between kitchen & dining space. Will have 3 barstools. Cooktop in island. Counters are Yosemite Falls Quartzite.
