While you may buy the boot totally new, it has a lived-in feel that's hard to replicate. The Annie has an unmatched patina right out of the box that only grows better with age, and breaking them in takes no time. Tecovas make for a great intro pair of cowboy boots if you're looking to invest a little but don't want to shell out the big bucks just yet. The world of cowboy and Western-style boots can get pretty detailed when you start breaking down leather types, welt styles, and toe shapes, but Tecovas makes the whole buying process simple and straightforward. They address the necessities in layman's terms and even include easy-to-digest graphics with birds-view details for each boot. The Annie is an all-bovine leather boot, with reinforced seven-row stitching to ensure that they last. The boot also has a Goodyear welt, so you can resole over the years. Most of Tecovas's boots are totally timeless, looking both classic and on-trend in the best way. The Annie comes in tons of different color options, including limited edition hues that tend to sell out. The boots are well-priced, sized to fit the majority of feet and calf shapes, and come in a variety of styles. To help you wrangle your decision, we're here to answer any additional questions you might have. How can you tell if a cowboy boot is good quality? When you look at a cowboy boot, it's probably pretty easy to discern if it's high quality or not, but how can you tell when shopping online?Well, for starters, high-quality cowboy boots will have far more detail listed about the boot. The leather type is of utmost importance on classic cowboy boots. Bovine hide is the most common, but you'll also find goat leather as well as more exotic ones like ostrich and alligator. Some boots will mix leathers, which they'll specify in the description. Each leather has it's own look, so a more exotic leather is a key giveaway of a high-quality boot.Another common feature you'll see listed on cowboy boots is a Goodyear welted sole. The Goodyear welt is a strong, durable way of attaching a sole to the body of the boot, in the simplest of terms. A Goodyear welt is essential in order for a cobbler to resole a boot, so if you're investing in a high-quality pair of boots, you'll want to be positive they have one. However, if you pick a more inexpensive pair, it's usually cheaper to just buy a new pair of boots than having them resoled. Finally, multi-row stitching is a feature you'll notice in most high-quality boots. Most cowboy boots are designed to get plenty of wear and tear, and so multi-row stitching ensures that the intricate patterning classic cowboy boots are known for stays intact. Is there a difference between cowboy and cowgirl boots?Aside from traditional sizing differences in men and women's shoes, cowboy and cowgirl boots mainly differ in style. Cowgirl boots typically have a more pointed toe (though not always) and a more a slightly more fitted shaft, though most still have plenty of room for wide calves. The body of the shoe is also typically more slender. Unfortunately, many brands have more limited selection when it comes to cowgirl boots, especially in regards to leather types. However, the vast majority of brands on this list have a superb dedication to serving their gals as well as their guys, which is part of the reason we selected them. Most of the time, you'll see cowgirl boots listed simply as women's cowboy boots. The terms are interchangeable and there's no difference between the two. Should you size up or down in cowboy boots? This varies widely by brand, so always be sure to check the product description and reviews before buying, but most brands typically recommend sizing down if you're between sizes. Our recommendation is to go with your shoe size for more formal wear, not your tennis shoes. Also, your boots might feel a little tight or stiff when you first receive them. This can vary by brand, but many cowboy boots have a \"breaking in\" period, which can actually help in the long run. This gives the boot the ability to perfectly mold to your foot. That being said, give your boots a few wears before deciding that the pair you got is too small.","image":"https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/cl-line2-669036406d386.jpg"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":22,"item":{"@type":"Thing","name":"How We Chose","url":"https://www.countryliving.com/shopping/g41396027/best-womens-cowboy-boots/?slide=22","description":"In addition to pulling from my own extensive collection, I also researched other popular boot brands and tested some of their most popular styles to see if they live up to the hype. I've worn my boots for years and can attest to their durability and comfortability, and we gave each pair of new boots more than a few thorough wears to see just how well they held up. Western wear and coastal cowgirl may be trending right now, but classic cowboy style is always our preferred aesthetic at Country Living. Based in the South and with more than a few cowboy boot enthusiasts on our team, we pride ourselves on being pretty darn knowledgeable on the topic. So, when the question of the best cowboy boots came up, naturally we turned to our own closets, and we wrangled this list of all of our favorites here.

While we included more than a few pairs of boots from brands that are known to last a lifetime, we also included a handful of boots that are on the more inexpensive side, while still hitting the Westerncore trend everyone can't get enough of. Whether you wear them in the rodeo ring, the line-dancing hoedown, or to Taylor Swift's latest concert, you'll be stepping out in style in any pair of these cowboy boots.

Tecovas The Annie

The Annie boot is Tecovas's best selling cowgirl boot, and it's easy to see why.

I've been wearing a white pair of Tecovas for years, and, other than the expected scuffs on the white leather, they have held up remarkably well and only become more comfortable over time.

Ariat Hybrid Rancher VentTek 360° Western Boot

With roots in the equestrian community, it's no secret that Ariat boots make for some of the best Western-style work boots on the market, and the Rancher may just be our favorite of their selection. They're easy to break in quickly, so you can get straight to wearing them around the rodeo ring right out of the box.

The Hybrid Rancher boot includes several features we've come to expect as standard for Ariat's boots. They're riding approved, have a sturdy four-row stitch, and a durable sole meant for working. Additionally, though, this pair has VentTek, a mesh-style material that's designed for breathable wear that'll keep you cool all day. After all, just because the days get hot means the work stops.

Ariat Dixon Western Boot

You definitely don't have to give up your boots in the summertime, but if you'll think you'll be too hot in a taller pair, the Dixon bootie is the solution. Choose from 17 colors and patterns, from "Sin City" blue to shiny "Gold Buckle" to feminine "Powder Pink." Shane Holman, Head of Western Footwear at Ariat, said, "They’re equally stunning with shorts, a skirt, or a dress! They can also be paired with capris, skinny jeans, wide leg flares, and even cuffed trousers–but I personally prefer a hem that shows off the cutout silhouette.”

The Dixon boot is made from 100% full-grain leather and features four-row stitching, so the delicate pattern should hold up for quite a while. The Goodyear welt also means the boots are able to be resoled over time, but you may find that it's cheaper to just buy a new pair, depending on your cobbler's prices.

Corral Boots Sand Embroidery Boots

Out of the many boots I've worn over the years, this pair is hands down my favorite. The roomy fit is perfect for wider calves, and the boots get more comfortable with each wear. They have held up really well with regular wear, gaining an aged patina and even more comfort.

The subtle stitching pattern and neutral leather makes the perfect for so many occasions, from work to an outdoor concert. But in case you'd prefer something a little more jazzy, Corral offers a huge selection that includes plenty of glitzier pairs of boots.

Corral really shines with their unique selection. The brand carries designs that are impossible to find anywhere else, with out-of-the-box colorways, stitching patterns, and adornments. With most of the cowgirl boots featuring their signature turquoise lining, it's easy to make a statement in Corral's boots.

Tecovas The Jolene

We can't get over the impeccable attention to detail in these versatile boots by Tecovas. Inspired by the pee wee boots of the 1940s and 1950s, the Jolene midi boot (a first for the brand) pairs classic style with today's trends. The bovine leather boots are handmade in Leon, Mexico and feature a five-row stitched pattern. If you're looking for a pair that's on the trendier side of Tecovas's lineup but still with their impeccable eye for detail, then look no further than the Jolene.

JUSTIN Suede Vintage Clara Boot

Considering the brand Justin dates back over 150 years, it's no surprise that they do vintage styles so well, including the Clara boot. The 15-inch boot makes a statement and, unlike so many other tall boots, is roomy enough to fit wide calves.

If you're looking for an intro to the cowboy boot world, Justin is our top recommendation. The boots are well-priced, sized to fit the majority of feet and calf shapes, and come in a variety of styles. While we love the vintage silhouette of the Clara boot, Justin makes tons of more traditional cowboy boot styles, too. They even have a line with Reba!

While so many pair of Justin boots have a timeless look, we wouldn't recommend them for longevity. The stitching on Justin's boots is usually single- or double-row patterns and they don't have Goodyear welted soles. However, since the price point is so great, it's not out of the question to just buy a new pair every 5-10 years.

BLACK STAR Aubrey Booties

Mexico is arguably the boot making capital of the world, so any company that boasts their boots are handcrafted in Mexico is worth their salt, including Black Star. Taking time-honored methods and silhouettes and melding them with current trends, the brand has developed a distinct style that's hard to miss. The Aubrey showcases the brand's dedication to quality and stye perfectly, with studded details and colorful stitching atop the genuine leather.

Frye Billy Pull On

You're probably familiar to Frye for their iconic riding boots, but the boot maker has shown their dedication for classic silhouettes and well-crafted shoes in the Western-wear segment, too. In fact, their first official cowboy boot launched in the 1940s — though the brand has been crafting boots since 1888.

The Billy boot is a no-frills, classic cowgirl-style boot that stands the test of time. The flexible sole makes this pair one of the most comfortable on the list, and a smaller heel height makes them accessible for almost anyone.

While Frye boots do come at a steeper price point than so many others, the brand is known for the age-old commitment to quality. A Goodyear welted sole assures that these boots can easily be resoled, and genuine leather outsole and lining mean they'll get better with age.

Twisted X Rancher Boot

Sustainability isn't a word you hear often in the cowboy boot community, but Twisted X has made it their mission — besides providing insanely comfortable boots, of course. Their ecoTWX fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles and the company is striving towards becoming carbon neutral.

But, back to the comfortability. The brand got their start by crafting "driving mocs," a comfortable, Western-style driving shoe. And they've taken that same dedication to relaxation to every pair of boots they produce, including the Rancher. Made with CellSole® technology, Twisted X claims that these boots activate "more than 100 individual pressure points of cloud-like comfort in the heel and ball of the foot." While we can't prove that's true, we can attest that these boots are, in fact, crazy comfortable.

Idyllwind Runaway Western Booties

Fans of Miranda Lambert are sure to be familiar with her cowgirl boot brand Idyllwind, and, like the brand's founder, these boots were made to stand out. Idyllwind has a vast selection of boots, from the more neutral pair to some true showstoppers, but we're really partial to their more unique designs, like the Runaway bootie.

Showing off the brand's eye for style, the Runaway booties features an intricate stitching pattern and two-toned leather and a floral inlay. Unfortunately, though, you may have slightly more limited use with this Idyllwind pair than with others on this list. That's because the boots don't have a Goodyear welted sole, so they can't be resoled, and the stitching appears to only be single- and double-rowed patterns.

Coconuts by Matisse Cimmaron

Finding a great pair of vegan leather cowboy boots is a tough sell. For starters, most major cowboy boot brands avoid vegan leather unless in use on a work boot. The community and style is rooted in tradition, and departing from classic leather hide is a step too far for most brands. Also, it's not easy to make vegan leather look like the real thing, but the Cimmaron boots make it work.

The vegan leather somehow nails the gorgeous patina of aged leather, a feat not easily achieved. It has the slightest evidence of natural-looking wrinkles that would fool most people into thinking your boots are made of bovine hide. But, if these boots were genuine leather, you could expect them to run you two to three times the price. If you're looking for a boot to hop on the Western bandwagon without dishing out hundreds, then look no further.

Justin Rush Work Boot

Rush Work Boot

The Rush boot is one of Justin's most popular models of work boot, so the silhouette comes in tons of different styles. With options like waterproofing, safety toes, non-metal shank, and electrical hazard rating, these boots were made for just about every line of work there is. And classic to Justin's style, the Rush boot won't cost you too much. Most are available for under $200, but don't sacrifice style, comfort, or efficiency.

Old Gringo Truly Western Boot

Truly Western Boot

Old Gringo boots are half shoe/half work of art. Each pair is masterfully produced, from the totally unique and intricate designs, to the hand-stitched patterns, to the comfortable feel customers love. You're sure to get more than a few compliments and head turns any time you wear a set of Old Gringos. You'll spend quite a bit more on Old Gringos than most of the other boots on this list, but plenty of folks have justified it considering the totally unique nature of Old Gringos. They're designed to stand out, so while you might not wear them every single day, you'll definitely make the most of them every time you do wear them.

Talolo Cowboy Wellies

Cowboy Wellies

The leather on traditional cowboy boots is fairly durable and meant to show a bit of wear and tear, but if you want to be sure you don't get your boots wet too often, it may be worth investing in a pair of wellies, too. These waterproof boots are perfect for city style with their faux croc print and durable exterior, but also feature all the classic cowgirl boot features, like pull-on tabs, a sleek pointed toe, and a 3.5-inch block-style heel. And while we wouldn't usually think of a UK-based brand for Western-style boots, we sure do trust them when it comes to wellies.

City Boots The Congress Boot

The Congress Boot

While their name might be City Boots, make no mistake about it: this Texas-based brand knows cowboy boots. In fact, it's pretty much all they make. They may be a splurge, but these boots are the definition of made to last. The Congress boot comes from their Austin collection and combines the vintage, retro feel that's evident across the city with more traditional Western aesthetic — and all wrapped up in a uniquely feminine package. Who knew cowgirls could rock blue and white so darn perfectly?

Thursday Boots Rodeo Boot

Rodeo Boot

We haven't had a chance to try Thursday's women's boots, but we can attest to their high-quality craftsmanship when it comes to their men's, so we're positive you can't go wrong with these. With a classic silhouette and traditional detailing, the Rodeo boot is a great option if you're looking for a simpler, more timeless style that'll look great for years to come. And there's no doubt that these boots will last you years, made from full-grain leather and with a durable hand-stitched pattern.

Dingo Full Bloom Western Boot

Full Bloom Western Boot

Some cowgirl boots are meant for the rodeo ring, while others are meant to show off at a country music concert. Dingo boots are definitely the latter. These high-styling boots are anything but basic, with some sporting sequins while others feature intricate embroidery patterns. We're partial to the Full Bloom boot. Can you even believe that floral embroidery is real? And for under $175, it's hard to get a better deal on a more unique pair of boots.

Lucchese Mad Dog Goat Patsy Cowgirl Boots

Mad Dog Goat Patsy Cowgirl Boots
Credit: Pinto Ranch

There's no doubt about it: Lucchese makes some of the best boots on the planet. The company has been around since the 1880s and handcrafts each pair out of the finest materials, sourcing leathers from all sorts of animals, including the usual suspects like bovine and goat, to more exotic, like ostrich or alligator. Tons of well-known figures throughout the decades have worn Lucchese, including the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

Of course, with top-quality products and such notoriety comes a price. Lucchese boots will run you a pretty penny — some of their styles can go up to $15,000. But, these boots have been known to last generations, especially thanks to the easy resole-ability and gets-better-with-age leather.

While we haven't had a chance to try any of Lucchese's women's boots, we've tried some of their men's and can attest to the quality. Also worth mentioning: Lucchese are known for having basically no break-in time. They mold to your feet essentially at the first wear.

DuoBoots Saffron Knee High Boots in Tan Suede

Saffron Knee High Boots in Tan Suede

DuoBoots caught our eye for their inclusive sizes. Anyone with a wide calf will appreciate the eight different calf size options on this suede knee-high boot (just use their handy fit finder). It goes on easy with a full zipper and pull-on tabs, and the scalloped details give it a Western feel. The memory foam insert will keep you comfortable on your feet for hours. While definitely not a traditional cowboy boot, the Saffron boot has enough classic details to fit within the trend, from the iconic stitch pattern to the quintessential blocky heel.

Gameday Boots Ivory Western Boot

Ivory Western Boot

Gameday-specific boots are definitely for a niche demographic, but those who want them look no further: there is a brand solely dedicated to ending your search. They have boots for over 20 universities, and even the US Wrestling Team. Each pair has a durable construction with a Goodyear welted sole, so prepare to be wearing these boots for your life. And considering you'll get so much wear out of them over the years, the price tag is pretty darn reasonable. Just be ready for your fellow tailgaters to ask you all day, "Oh my gosh, where did you get those boots?!"
