Still mourning the end of Fixer Upper? Time to start your own project.
In our never-ending quest for the perfect old house (read: small in price, big on charm), we happened upon this drop-dead gorgeous home for sale in Logansport, Indiana. And we've been lost in dream world ever since.
It's one of Logansport's most lavish and legendary homes, and it sits smack dab in the middle of the city's recently designated Riverside Historic District. According to historical records, the home was built sometime in the early-to-mid 19th century by George Tipton, who inherited the parcel of land on which the house now sits from his father—a former U.S. senator. George dubbed his home "Domicile Square."
The imposing (and amazing!) double-decker porch was added by later owners around the turn-of-the-century, when the extravagant Neoclassical style was all the rage. This alteration also changed the orientation of the house to face newly built North Street.
The asking price is a mere $73,900—but don't go counting your pennies just yet. In the decade or so since they purchased the house, the current owners have chosen to focus on the interior, passing the baton along for someone else to beautify the outside. Though the house is structurally sound, it will require extensive restoration work, especially on the exterior, where the paint is chipping and some of the wood needs replacing. This will be no small feat (the house is nearly 4,000 square feet, plus there's a carriage barn on site) but for the right person with the right eye and set of skills, this could be a dream project.
Inside, you'll find a glorious original staircase, fretwork, stained glass, historical fireplace mantels and wood floors.
Needless to say, any city would benefit from seeing one of its most iconic and celebrated historical homes restored to its former glory, and Logansport is no exception.
Here's hoping this beauty lands in the hands of someone with a passion and a vision for historical homes. Because that porch simply must be saved!
