30 Beautiful Ways to Decorate Your Kitchen With Wallpaper

Wallpaper is back! And there’s no better place to try it then in your kitchen.

By

Like us, you’ve probably been noticing wallpapered rooms popping up everywhere. It's true, wallpaper is back and not just in bathrooms or kids’ rooms (we’re big fans of Erin Napier's collection with York). From subtle neutral patterns to bold graphic florals—and an overflowing fruit basket of whimsical kitchen-themed designs—today’s wallpaper options offer colors and patterns just right for any and all styles of kitchens.

Even better, because the majority of kitchen walls are covered with cabinetry, appliances, and windows, you won’t need to invest in a large quantity of wallpaper to make a big impact. You also don’t have to commit to wallpapering the entire kitchen! Start small by creating a wallpapered accent wall, turning a drab corner into a cozy dining nook, lining the back of your cabinets with wallpaper, or adding some flavor—of the visual variety—to your pantry.

The best news, though, is that today’s wallpapers aren’t like the old messy paste up and live with forever papers of the past. They are much easier to install—and to remove! There are also many stylish peel-and-stick wallpapers available, making DIY kitchen decorating even easier and virtually commitment-free. To add even more character to your kitchen, pair your wallpaper with a charming painted floor, upgraded light fixtures, and new beautiful and durable kitchen countertops.

Here is even more inspiration for decorating your kitchen:

Add Age With a Period-Appropriate Wallpaper

Chase Daniel, styling by Maureen Hodges

For the whole-house palette, homeowner Melissa Duckworth looked to Benjamin Moore’s Historical Collection for colors that were just right for the remodel of her early 1900s farmhouse. In the galley kitchen, which was previously the home’s hallway, she chose a timeless cornflower blue to pair with the reproduction wallpaper (“Larkspur 1872” designed by William Morris) and antique mint-colored—and mint condition!—enamel gas range she found on eBay. The century-old farmhouse sink and period sconces and pendant were all additional eBay finds.

Add Impact with Matching Fabric and Wallpaper

Stacy Zarin Goldberg

This 200 year-old farmhouse, designed by Cameron Ruppert, is a jovial jumble of color and pattern thanks to the repeating petite pattern on the café curtain and wallpaper. This small kitchen gets it’s fair share of bold choices, so the smaller hits of a singular pattern keep it feeling grounded and timeless.
