Omeka Managed Hosting

Isolated Hosting

Interested in outsourcing the installation and maintenance of your Omeka Classic or Omeka S project, but still want direct access to the server?

Known for its reliability and personal service, Omeka Hosting is the choice of a wide variety of institutions ranging from major research institutions such Oxford University, to independent cultural heritage collections like the Japanese American Military History Collective and the Curve Archive, to public libraries such as the Georgia Public Library Service and the Lorain Public Library System.

The Omeka Team fully manages each hosted Omeka Classic or Omeka S installation on an isolate server, including installing and handling upgrades for the core software, Omeka-created addons and themes. Unlike software-as-service installations, Omeka hosting clients have full access to the server to install their own third party addons and custom themes. The Omeka Team also provides direct support for client technical users.

Hosting fees are charged on an annual basis, and are determined by the size of the hosted installation. Instances are backed up daily and reinforced by a daily snapshot, which is retained in case of drive failure.

Sustainability Hosting

Users who have completed active work on their Omeka digital publishing project want to ensure that their work is available to public users in an ongoing way, even though the project is not under ongoing development. This need for sustained access is frequently a requirement of grant funding. To help satisfy this need, Omeka Services offers a Sustainability Hosting package so that project creators can be certain that visitors can engage with their projects for years to come.

Features:

Each Sustainability Hosting package includes a set of offerings that are designed to allow public visitors ongoing functional access to a completed project without burdening the project creators with the duties of infrastructure update and maintenance. Those elements include:

  • Proposal Materials Starter Package: For projects seeking funding, the Omeka Team will provide a set of documents addressing sustainability and preservation issues with respect to Omeka, its services, and its parent entity, Digital Scholar. These materials are ideal for including as an appendix in a grant application, or as guides for project creators who are developing persuasive funding proposals.
  • Sustainability Hosting: At the conclusion of project development, project creators will hand off their work to the Omeka Team for sustainable hosting. This transfer effectively freezes the project in its current state. Project creators will have no administrative access to make additional edits. However, the project will be served on the web in its fullest, most dynamic form with an active database and external web-served elements. The Omeka Team will also maintain the project’s domain for the period of sustainability hosting, ensuring visitors will have uninterrupted access to the site.
  • Digital Preservation Package: The Omeka Team will deliver a number of backup and preservation files derived from existing project assets. These elements are suitable for deposit with a digital preservation entity. Delivered elements will include:

    • Full server image and database export
    • A WARC crawl of the full site

While clients may contract for a term of any number of years, selecting a five year or longer term results in a 25% discount on the hosting fees.

Size Fee per year Fee per year for 5+ years

500 GB $2,970 $2,250
