What Fitness Guru Tracy Anderson Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair but the hairspray and the electric toothbrush. We asked fitness guru Tracy Anderson, the CEO and founder of the Tracy Anderson Method, about the milk frother, body scrub, and face mask she can’t live without.

What I like the most about Calm is what it does for me as a parent. I have an 8-year-old girl, Penny, who would love to stay up until midnight every night. I had tried so many things with her before I was introduced to the Calm app. Matthew McConaughey reading the story “Wonder” puts her to sleep every single time, and for that I’m so grateful. McConaughey and Harry Styles are her two favorites — they alway help her get to sleep.

Spotify allows me to do something really unique in my industry. I film live classes, and the people who can’t take them live with me, especially during COVID, are able to get that amazing music by downloading my class playlists on Spotify. It’s about being able to share the music I love and getting people moving to it. Making two-hour-long playlists a couple of times a week for classes has been super fun for me. Lady Gaga’s latest album is so fun to move to, so is Coldplay’s song “Arabesque” and Lana Del Rey’s “Let Me Love You Like a Woman.” It’s also been fun to go back and play old-school stuff like Eurythmics’ “Here Comes the Rain Again,” Matchbox Twenty’s “Unwell,” and Salt-N-Pepa’s “The Brick Track Versus Gitty Up.”

I’m a coffee lover. I have one or two cups every morning, and the only way I take my coffee is with really, really frothy foam on top. Before quarantine, when my assistant brought me my coffee, we would say: “You’ve got to make sure the foam makes it home.” I can’t drink my coffee if the foam disintegrates, it has to have the foam on top. Now, I’ll use this frother with either whole milk or full-fat oat milk. It froths oat milk like nobody’s business.

I love having surround sound everywhere in the house, so I have lots of hidden Sonos speakers. The Move is new; you can take it anywhere. Music is such an important part of life. If my daughter gets a boo-boo, we turn on some music and it’s an immediate distraction in a positive way. It’s a powerful thing. Whether you’re celebrating something, bummed out about something, or want to relax, music is a healthy thing to have in any household.

I’m friendly with supermodel Carolyn Murphy and actually learned about this mask from her. The brand is out of Malibu, and they care about people being able to move and exercise in their masks. I’ve ordered a ton of these. They have them for kids, too, which I think is so great. I really cannot do the disposable masks at all — my mom actually developed a terrible rash from one of the disposable masks. This Variant one comes in lots of different colors and you can really breathe in it, too. It was the first one I tried that felt great on. I love the denim color and the baby-blue one. I also wear the charcoal one a lot because it goes with everything.

This is a game changer. I actually got a text from one of my friends who used this before she went on a date with a guy — she was like, “You have to get this.” They’ve since been together for quite some time, and the other day we joked it was because of the body scrub. It’s the most brilliant scrub I’ve ever come across in my life. I will dry brush with it in the shower. I’ll dry off, put the C & the Moon on, scrub it in, and then quickly rinse it off. Then I’ll put on my balms and my lotions and it’s like beyond baby skin.

I have worn these boots for years and years and years. I love the ones with the little wedge in them because I’m only five feet tall, so it’s nice to have a cozy boot that also gives you a little lift. I live in them year-round even though they’re so warm. It’ll be a rare day that you won’t see me in the Mou boots. I really like the camel color. I think it’s cool. My daughter loves them, too. She has tons of pairs as well.

Kim Kardashian’s company Skims is all amazing loungewear. I work out in a lot of the bodysuits and it has tons of different leggings. I’m obsessed with this pair. I love them. I wear them with a cashmere sweater — that’s my uniform.

This is some more fashion-forward comfort wear. The cuts are everything. You don’t have to wear old-school long johns that look all funky and weird with legs that are a bizarre length. This takes the comfort of those yummy things but looks really cool.

I’m a huge Yeti fan. I have the cooler and the wine glasses that keep my rosé really cold in the summer. They’re genius. But my favorite vessel is the coffee mug with the handle. It keeps my coffee warm for hours upon hours. I use it every morning and it even keeps my foam from disintegrating.

Once Jennifer Fisher came out with these hoops, it’s almost like I forgot all other earring options existed. They look so feminine yet cool and youthful. They go with everything, and they make every outfit look better. I workout in them, and I sleep in them. I don’t even think about it. I feel like they’re permanently attached to my ears.

I was crazy involved in developing my line of balms. It was something I really wanted to do because I care a lot about people understanding what is actually in their beauty products and what they put on their skin. I took advantage of advancements in science by working with an amazing doctor, neurologist Doug Strobel. We created five custom balms, and the Got Physical one happens to be my favorite. I think it’s truly upping the game in anti-inflammatory topical creams. I put it on my daughter’s boo-boos. If I want to stretch with more ease, I will put it on my body before I stretch. If you want to give someone a back rub, it absolutely relaxes them with magnesium. My fiancé will sometimes have lower back pain and nothing would work for it. But I put this on and he was like, “Wait a second, it’s like a miracle.” It melts in your hand. It’s hard when you scoop it out but then as you work it in, which is part of the idea, it gets so soft and melts like butter. And it smells amazing — one of the things I worked on the most was the scent.
