We write about hundreds of products a week. Here, in our version of the Sunday circular, we’ve plucked out some of our favorites — expert-recommended essentials, life-changing stuff you didn’t know you needed, newly-launched gizmos, and the very good deals we uncovered while trolling through the vast online-shopping universe this past week.
A stinky powder that works wonders on arthritic dogs
“I’m pretty sure you could dig up a corpse, drop it in a bathtub full of rotten eggs and ripe durian, and it would still smell better than this,” contributor Ashlea Halpern wrote of this powder supplement made with green-lipped mussels from New Zealand. But when Halpern mixed it with food for her 12-year-old rescue dog, Izzy (who underwent a double-knee surgery before Halpern adopted her), she went from walking “with a pained stagger” to “skittering over our hardwood floors like Tom Cruise in Risky Business” within a week.
A coin-collecting cat that Diptyque’s creative director loves to give
“It’s one of my favorite gifts to give to children,” Myriam Badault, the creative director of one of our favorite candle brands (to give and receive), said of this inexpensive bank. “You put the coin on the box, and then the box opens and a little kitten comes out and steals the coin.” The bank is one of 11 things Badault told us she can’t live without.
Kids’ blocks that double as décor
On the topic of gifts to give to children, our new toy matrix includes dozens upon dozens of playthings — from inexpensive brain candy to pricey educational toys to tons of things in between, like these pretty rainbow blocks — for ages 1 through 10.
Some on-sale classic Levi’s
These high-waisted skinnies from our Friday Sales roundup are one of three Levi’s styles you can get for 25 percent off at Anthropologie right now.
… and an on-sale pair of winter boots
Also from Friday Sales, these are designed in Copenhagen, made in Portugal, and the type of versatile, street-to-office boots guys can wear all winter.
A giftable (Chris Black–approved) L.L. Bean tote
When a reader wrote to Chris asking him for help finding unique and useful groomsmen gifts, our columnist’s first response was this L.L. Bean tote in olive green. “A monogrammed Hunter’s Tote would be useful and might last longer than your marriage! At less than $50 for the bag and monogram (which is $8 extra), this is an especially budget-friendly option,” Chris said.
An egg cooker that one buyer had a lot of fun reviewing
“This has been an EGGcellent investment,” the happy customer says of this top-rated egg cooker on our list of the best-reviewed ones from Amazon. “We have now used EGGceedingly awesome machine to make about ten dozen hard boiled eggs and everyone single one has peeled perfectly.”
An egg you’ll love (but not for eating)
This inexpensive “stroker” egg is a men’s sex toy that Andy Duran, from sex-toy retailer Good Vibrations, sells “a lot to guys going on trips. I often say, ‘Hey, throw this in your backpack while you’re going away for the weekend.’ It’s just a little treat.” The egg is one of 23 expert-recommended sex toys for men that made our list.
A Kindercore watch
Perhaps, like Strategist editor Katy Schneider and writer Hilary Reid, you’ve also noticed how primary colors and palettes that look like “a Microsoft WordArt gradient come to life” are popping up everywhere. Schneider and Reid dubbed this design movement Kindercore, and recently rounded up a selection of clothes, home goods, and accessories — like this minimalist Mondrian-inspired watch — that’ll help you get in on the phenomenon.
An ‘exhilarating’ dry brush
Our veteran beauty writer Linda Dyett recently declared that “the most exhilarating of all the bath and body products I’ve ever tried isn’t a cream or gel, it’s the Goop G-Tox Ultimate Dry Brush.” Using it just twice a week, she said, leaves her “limbs and haunches feeling shimmering and woke.”
A lamp from Walmart that looks like it could’ve been at Salone Del Mobile Milano
In last week’s Don’t Dillydally, we wrote that this particular shape of lamp is having a moment. Now would be a good moment to buy one, too, because at under $50, we don’t think it’ll be long for this world.
A gift for book lovers who like to stay in
In her guide to the best gifts for book lovers, senior writer Karen Iorio Adelson perfectly summed up these bookends that double as planters: “They’re an attractive and functional gift that’ll make any bookshelf look a bit more interesting.”
… and a gift for book lovers who like to go out
Speaking of books, Walt Cassidy’s (a.k.a. Waltpaper) “high-impact” visual diary filled with rare and previously unseen photographs of the ’90s underground club scene in New York City is one of 41 new coffee-table books that we think would make excellent gifts.
A DTC bra you can wear all day without thinking about
Adelson recently tested “basic T-shirt bras” from seven new-ish direct-to-consumer start-ups. She called this, the second least expensive of the bunch, the type of workhorse bra you can wear several days a week. “It has underwire, softly molded cups, and the ability to easily convert to a racerback. Overall, it’s a solid, affordable bra that you can go all day without thinking much about,” she wrote.
And a very fun toothbrush
On her recent trip to Scandinavia, writer Dominique Pariso picked up this toothbrush at a brick-and-mortar outpost of Strategist-beloved decor brand Hay. The coral color is exactly the sort of fun detail to make morning teeth-brushing just a little less tedious (it also comes in a bright yellow and blue).
The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
