KNEE DEEP IN LEAVES

This is the fourth week of leaf blowing and pickup.

It seems to be a necessary evil each year.
It's probably not the healthiest of atmospheres while this is going on.
Some of them don't wear masks , a practice that may come back to bite them when they get older.....I hope not.

I know that my chest gets tight when they are right outside my home.
I put a mask on for awhile.
Zoeys allergies get worse..she's sneezing more today..
I took this picture through my storm door so please excuse
the reflection of my plantation blinds on the truck.

That's a big vacuum...
Two more weeks should do it ... ( I hope ).

Here too we have this annual frenzy to clean up fallen leaves. I am not quite sure how the trend developed. We leave ours on the ground until spring, providing shelter and protection for myriad insects, including the pupae of butterflies and moths that require stratification to succeed. I have to say, a few more house are following suit. I am not sure whether it is out of environmental concern, or whether it simply reflects that the neighbourhood is getting older. As for whether to wear a mask or not, I have never given it much thought, but it couldn’t hurt. They don’t seem to do so here, but they are not blowing the leaves they are being sucked up with a giant vacuum. The city generally goes overboard with health and safety requirements and equipment, so I would imagine it’s not a huge threat. As kids we used to roll in the leaves and pile them high and jump into them from tree branches. Come on up, Missy, we’ll roll in the leaves together. How can you pass up a chance like that? ❤️David

That's great that the city picks them up. They don't here and you have to pay to have them taken away.

I love Paul Clark's tutorials on watercoloring. I've tried one of his, about ready to tackle another one. Do you paint?

Allergies are the worst. I struggle myself, and you're very smart to wear a mask when you notice. To help alleviate my allergies, I like to eat local honey, call my upholstery cleaner in Colorado Springs, CO twice a year (late fall before the holidays, and spring), and I run my air purifiers 12 hours a day. Thanks for sharing the watercoloring photos. I would love to try!

Of course it's spring here, so all the leaves are bright and green. Although a street sweeping machine did pass me today - and it seemed to be generating more dust than it was collecting! I tend to collect as many leaves as I can in the autumn to add to our compost bin. Hope all is well. Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne

You're inspiring me to take up watercolors again. I took six months of lessons a few years ago, but it didn't click. I kept my paints and this winter may be the time to try again. I'll look up the videos you watched. Thanks!

Hello,
My allergies would be a mess around all those leaves.
I love your sketches, they are all beautiful.
Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.

Hi Missy! Haven't been here in awhile. Wow, that's a lot of leaves! All that future fertilizer going away. I'd not want them to have mine. Your paintings are lovely!
