Resonance (Part 2) ( 残響(前編) "Zankyō (Chūhen)" ) is the 28th chapter of the Kekkaishi Manga written and illustrated by Yellow Tanabe
Summary[]
Yoshimori, Yumeko Hananokoji, and Masahiko Tsukijigaoka approach Toshihiko Tsukijigaoka at the site of his brother's accident, and Yumeko tells him that his brother's ghost has been unable to pass on out of concern for him. When Toshihiko doesn't react, Yumeko adds that they have brought his brother's ghost is with them. This angers Toshihiko, who demands to know what they want. Masahiko cowers from his brother's anger, and Yoshimori tries to get him to stand up for himself, refusing to allow him to run back to the hot springs. Toshihiko overhears this, and Yumeko asks him if he resents his brother. Toshihiko says he does, but offers them a chance to prove themselves. He says he will return to the site the next day, and if they bring him proof of his brother being with him, he may listen to them.
Yumeko has no idea what kind of proof they could offer, and Masahiko thinks it is better to give up, since he's already caused trouble for his brother. Yumeko refuses to give up, pointing out that as a ghost, Masahiko may start to haunt his brother if the situation goes unresolved, and might even kill him. Yoshimori agrees that they must convince Toshihiko to listen somehow. He also can't accept that Toshihiko really hates his brother, since he looked so sad at the scene of the accident. Masahiko admits he really wants to apologize, and recalls that he used to make a certain cake for his brother. Yoshimori volunteers to make it for him, but says he has to work that evening. Yumeko volunteers to have everything set up for him the following morning.
The next morning, Yoshimori sends a Shikigami to school, then goes to Yumeko's mansion to make the cake. Masahiko has reproduced the recipe, so Yoshimori attempts to make the cake. After several failed attempts, Masahiko begins to lose hope. He says he originally made cake trying to copy his mother's, who died when he was young. He made it to cheer up Toshihiko after their parents died. Seeing his brother happy inspired him to make more sweets that could make people happy. Yoshimori decides to make one final attempt.
