What is this fundraiser for? back to top
All funds raised will be sent to
ephemere, with the aim of supporting her in the wake of her losing her job, home, and good relations with her family due to homophobia. The idea of this fundraiser was conceived by friends of
ephemere, and is being run with her permission. Funds will go to rent, utilities, food, and medical bills.
How can I help? back to top
Thank you for asking! You can offer up items for auction (please use this template to format your auction post), bid on items, and signal-boost.
You can also donate money directly -- please contact the mods (
littlebutfierce,
troisroyaumes, or
vi) for donation information.
What kinds of things can we auction off? back to top
Some suggested categories and examples include:
Words: Fanfic, original fiction
Arts and crafts: Fanart or original art (digital or non-digital), crafts (physical objects)
Graphics: Icons, site layouts, mood themes
Audio: Fan-related or original music
Food (Please note, bidders are responsible for confirming whether food items will get through customs in their country.)
Everything else: Catch-all category, including things such as clothing, etc
These are not all-inclusive: if you’ve got something great to auction off that isn’t mentioned here, we’d love to see it.
What are the dates of the auction? back to top
The auction will open for offers on Thursday, July 5.
All auctions will open for bids on Thursday, July 12.
Bidding will be open from Thursday, July 12 at 21:00 GMT to Saturday, July 21 at 21:00 GMT (time zone converter).
Auctions should be paid for within two weeks after the auction closes.
How does making an offer work? back to top
Please make a separate post to the community, with “Offer: [description of your offer here]” as the subject line. Offer posts should contain, at minimum, the following information (see text box for the template):
User name:
Email address:
YM/AIM/Gtalk/ICQ (optional):
Examples of my work:
I'm offering:
Fandoms (if appropriate):
Additional info (optional):
Starting bid (in USD):
Examples of my work (optional): Please use a DW cut if you are showing more than one image or if the image is not safe for work (instructions for placing things behind a cut). For an image outside a cut, please keep it to a reasonable size (600 x 600 pixels or smaller).
You can use xe.com as reference for converting currency.
Please tag your auctions; for example: “offer: fanfiction,” or “offer: care package.” Please also tag your auctions with where you can ship to; for example, “ships to: anywhere” (this could also be used for nontangible items, such as fanfiction), “ships to: UK,” etc. You can use multiple tags, and are encouraged to do so!
How does bidding work? back to top
Please comment to the offer post with your bid in USD. If someone else has already bid, please reply to their comment (don’t start a new thread) -- this makes the current bid easier to track, and will also notify the previous bidder that they’ve been outbid.
You can use xe.com as reference for converting currency.
Please note: Because the funds will be collected via Paypal, if you pay via debit or credit card, or are outside the US, there will be a small fee. We ask that bidders please pay this fee, if not paying via Paypal balance or bank account (which incurs no fee) as this is a charity auction -- thank you for your understanding. The fees are relatively small, but please keep them in mind when bidding.
What happens when the auction ends? back to top
The mods will contact you to confirm your donation and provide information on paying via Paypal (you don’t need a Paypal account to do this). Please see note in the previous question regarding Paypal fees.
How will the money be given to
ephemere? How do we know we can trust you? back to top
We will be posting a list of money received (with personal information removed) in a Google Docs spreadsheet. Once the auction is finished and the money collected, we will be sending
ephemere the funds, most likely by Western Union or another remittance service. We will post a scanned copy of the receipt (again, with personal information removed).
