OpenNews is much faster and efficient than other extensions. Furthermore, OpenNews' method for blocking is versatile and works on many sites, even those not tested before.
- Download the latest
.crx
file from the Releases Page. Ensure the file is in your default Download directory. - Navigate to
chrome://extensions
on your browser. - Turn on Developer Mode.
- Simply, drag and drop.
- Enjoy!
- The extension should automagically update, but you can also manually update by clicking the
Update
button on the Extensions pagechrome://extensions
.
As of December 1st, 2018 the Google Chrome team has removed this extension from the store. Hopefully it will be back up soon. Till that time, the best solution is to install the extension using the method shared down below.

- This extension works best alongside uBlock Origin and uBlock Origin Extra.
- If a site doesn't work, try turning off uBlock and refreshing. If that doesn't work, try toggling the extension and manually checking for updates to ensure you are on the latest version of OpenNews.
