Student Affairs

With students at the heart of all that we do, the Office of Student Affairs creates holistic learning opportunities, programs and services that prepare environmentally focused students to lead, serve and become engaged members of a global society.

Our goal is to provide developmental advising and mentoring as we help YSE students identify and understand the resources and options available, empowering them to make more informed choices that facilitate opportunities to help find a sense of belonging and build relationships across differences. In this process, we hope to foster wellbeing, leadership, and life skills so that they can thrive personally and intellectually at YSE and beyond.

The Office of Student Affairs seeks to be transparent in the way we do our work and to engage with students and colleagues in ways that improve the services we provide and the experiences of all the students we serve.

Lauren Horner joined YSE in July 2022. Prior to YSE, Lauren served as a Health Educator at Yale Health focusing on health and wellness programming and supporting students 1-on-1 with lifestyle management. Lauren is committed to improving the connection, well-being, and belonging of students by encouraging them to embrace their passions and reach their highest potential outside of the classroom. She hopes to partner with students in helping them overcome obstacles while providing motivation, support, and resources.

    Hello! 你好! 안녕하세요!

As the son of two immigrant parents (from Korea and Trinidad) and having studied abroad while earning a Master’s degree in Intercultural Communications at Shanghai International Studies University in China, I am excited to support YSE’s international graduate students! One of the greatest gifts of studying abroad is encountering new cultures, new paradigms, new friendships, and new ways of knowing and being. These are gifts that are shared by students, staff, and faculty who have the privilege of working with international sojourners.

In both my personal and professional journey, I am keenly aware that we each hold a relationship to the natural world around us, one that is reciprocal and ever evolving.  I am passionate about social justice, community care, facilitation, and diversity and equity work and am excited to bring my skills, strengths, and background to empower students at YSE.

Outside of work, I enjoy binge-watching cooking-based tv shows, wood-working, hiking, and finding new ways to entertain my three kids.

Carlos Rosario joined YSE in July 2024. He brings with him over a decade of experience in government and non-profit work. Most recently he assisted senior management at a community developmental financial institution focusing on the creation of new opportunities in affordable housing and energy efficiency for low-income families throughout the state of Connecticut.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Central Connecticut State University which has afforded him the opportunity to work in the fields of journalism and television production as well. Raised in the United States by parents of Puerto Rican heritage, he is bilingual in English and Spanish.

As part of the Student Affairs Department, Carlos’ goal is to utilize the skills and knowledge gained from his varied background to help instill a strong sense of belonging and support for the Students of YSE.
