Legend - Source?
[edit]What is the source for the Legend - how the mokugyo came to its name - because i can find only different legends in the internet. --BambooBeast 12:03, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
I suggest a change in the text.
Change, "Therefore, it is to remind the chanting monks to be concentrate on their sutra."
to read, "It is used to remind the chanting monks to concentrate on their sutra."
I suggest a change in the text. Change, "There are two kinds of wooden fish. One is the well known wooden fish that is round in shape with scales carved on its top." to read, "There are two kinds of wooden fish, round and fish shaped. The well known, wooden fish is round with scales carved on top." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.5.226.145 (talk) 15:48, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Moved from top of page
[edit]I'd like to reiterate the question below. What is the source for the legend? It is a wonderful tale and the author did a good job telling it, but generally Buddhist stories include the monk's name. Furthermore, this story seems to be propagating on the web based on this entry, see: http://www.experiencefestival.com/a/Mokugyo/id/527451
So, there really should be some sort of reference to the ancient texts that this story originated from. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.195.80.165 (talk) 11:34, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

If the concept of the nomenclature is unable to apply to the section of Legends & nomenclature, welcome to make edition accordingly

Wishing most of aquatic fish become wooden plants
And manifested to flowers or fruits in the sunshine
Hence scented to the air to please the universe

holy?
[edit]"it si mainly used bye the buddhists and monks." was placed on the page and removed by me. It's obviously with some problems, but I didn't want to correct the spelling and by default make a content edit for something I don't know about so I moved it here. --Torchwood Who? Merge
[edit]I see there is nothing about the merging in the discuss page, I wish to know where to merge it and I'm guessing this article. Temple block is a stub so I think we should just delete Temple Block as of for that reason. If no one responds then I will merge it myself. USAManager (talk) 13:10, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- I did it myself. --Neararena (talk) 14:20, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Temple Block (disambiguation) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 02:19, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Unmerge Temple block
[edit]I don't understand why orchestral temple blocks/granite blocks were merged with this page? The merge didn't even carry over most of the information or pictures. If it is a stub, so be it, but the pages would describe two different things. Why? I Ask (talk) 19:35, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
Alternate Japanese name?
[edit]Is 杢魚 (とも) an alternate Japanese name, as the Japanese-language Wikipedia article about this musical instrument indicates? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 22:22, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
