MAUS
[edit]The book "MAUS" by Art Spiegelman must be mentioned here. It is the author's father Vladek Spiegelman's memories from Sosnowiec, Srodula and Auschwitz.
Recent edits
[edit]I have removed uncited material,[1] and a passage attributed to Timothy Synder which was not actually made by him - a BLP vio,[2]. I also correct a URL,[3] toned down language,[4], and removed uses of highly unreliable WP:SPS sources.[5] Icewhiz (talk) 06:36, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
vestibule
[edit]The word links Lobby (room) including Sky lobby. Absurd. Isn't it rather a mudroom? It links Entryway.Xx236 (talk) 12:55, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
- removed link - overlinking in my view. Icewhiz (talk) 13:19, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
Lack of basic facts
[edit]The lead does not explain connection betwen Poland and the ghetto. It suggests that Polish Jews were deported to Germany. Only at the end you find Further information: Jewish ghettos in German-occupied Poland, but why Poland?Xx236 (talk) 09:21, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- The city, located on the pre-war Polish-German border - wow! A new geography.

Cicha family should be mentioned

Why editing of this article is disabled?

Press mention
[edit]I reverted the removal of the press mention, which was done with the following rationale: "I’m removing coat racked link to the old article which was not about Sosnowiec Ghetto at all". The quoted mention includes Sosnowiec Ghetto, so the rationale does not apply, along with "coat racked link" and "old article". Press mentions do not age out, etc. --K.e.coffman (talk) 06:47, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- @K.e.coffman
- The rationale for revert:
- 1 - Sosnowiec Ghetto is mentioned in that press in passing only. It's not about the Sosnowiec Ghetto.
- 2-The entry you restored was recorded by now globally blocked[6] proxy IP 89.121.211.242 for being a possible sock puppet of the mentioned globally banned user.
- We usually do not promote sock-puppetry etc, etc. - GizzyCatBella🍁 12:32, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Wrong geographical coordinates
[edit]This edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Please change geographical coordinated of Sosnowiec Ghetto to 50.2976N 19.1571E -- Coordinates currently in article point to a place "in the middle ow nowhere" -- not even in Sosnowiec.
The geographical middle of Sosnowiec ghetto has been on crossing of Bohaterów Getta street ("Ghetto Heroes") and Antoni Frankiewicz street. Coordinate for ghetto middle is: 50.2976N 19.1571E.
One more question -- is it possible to mark area to show ghetto in the map? The ghetto has been enclosed by: -- from north: Zuzanny street -- from south: Boleslawa Prusa street -- from east: Stefana Jedryczki street -- from west: Stefana Okrzei street — Preceding unsigned comment added by EitanHaber (talk • contribs) 10:56, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- @EitanHaber do you have a source where I can verify the location change? It is indeed odd that the marker is where it is. I dunno how to add an area marker to the map tho, but I'll see what I can do when I verify it. SWinxy (talk) 20:57, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sources:
- 1) polish version of wiki page (it is also reviewed): please look at maps at given coordinates: english version points to the place in forest, close to Katowice city (https://www.google.com/maps/place/50%C2%B011'24.0%22N+19%C2%B004'48.0%22E/@50.19,19.0778113,17z) while polish version points to Bohaterów Getta street ("Heroes of Ghetto street") in Sosnowiec city.
- 2) maps of Sosnowiec ghetto: https://sztetl.org.pl/pl/media/27064-plan-getta-w-bedzinie-i-sosnowcu (this is polish virtual museum "Virtual Shtetl") and https://wikizaglebie.pl/wiki/Plik:B%C4%99dzin,_Sosnowiec_Plan_getta.jpg EitanHaber (talk) 07:42, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not able to corroborate from the sztetl map. It may be too old and things have changed to be unrecognizable, or I'm not able to overlay the old map with the current maps. I've removed the coordinates for now. I can't rely on plwiki because it doesn't provide a source. SWinxy (talk) 16:00, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Have look and compare:
- and https://sztetl.org.pl/pl/media/27064-plan-getta-w-bedzinie-i-sosnowcu
- 1) look at Sokolska street in google maps -- you can easily find it in old map (50.3076 19.15946 https://www.google.pl/maps/place/50.3076%2019.15946)
- 2) look at railway line on the left of old map -- you can see it in google map too (left to the ghetto, 50.299 19.1446 https://www.google.pl/maps/place/50.299%2019.1446)
- 3) look at cementary ("Cmentarz Parafialny", 50.298, 19.168 https://www.google.pl/maps/place/50.298%2019.168), it is also marked on the right of "Schrodel" description in the old map
- 4) In google maps search for "Sosnowiec Środula" (that was "Schrodel") -- it will point to the same place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Arodula
- I have also found the same map here: https://www.infocenters.co.il/gfh/multimedia/GFH/0000035265/0000035265_1_web.jpg
- BTW -- I am only referring to bottom part of historical map -- the upper part was ghetto in Bedzin town. EitanHaber (talk) 08:32, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Done. Odd how I didn't see it before. The citation of the Sztetl site should be enough for other editors to verify that it is indeed the right location. I've cross-checked the old map with Google maps and have been able to line it up (again, how I missed this before when it seems so obvious now is beyond me). SWinxy (talk) 06:30, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
