I just wish to corroborate : this concert was was a very happy party from 8Am -11Pm. I was there and because i was 14 and upset not to have gone to Woodstock, this peace festival came along in my neighborhood. I had a couple of tickets but many of my friends just sneaked in. I lived in Lefrak City and my Friends Lived there too and Corona, Queens. We where all heads. The line-up was of course Peter, Paul and Mary. Poco and Marshall Tucker Band. James Walsh and James Gang. Richie havens had the packed--PACKED-stadium singing Freedom and the levels where shaking up and down--once the fans realize they could shake the tiers it happened often. As the day went i get stoner and stoner -free drugs and booze--joints where just passed right and left. I was 14 and i have yet to experience such free flowing drugs dumped onto your lap like this. I believe Stepphenwolf end the show with the anthem ," the pusherman"; they also played Monster. It was also the first performance New York concert,as claimed by Janis Joplin's with her new band, Full-Tilt Boogie Band.
All the proceeds as Peter Yarwood claimed went to some peace causes, for hunger, but it seems to get commercial as the concert got on where band where there to promote themselves ,contracts with producers to donate money--a quid pro quo type of thing and the music got better. The road crew of varios bands worked together and really move the instrument and amps more quicly as the day got on. For a one-day concert it was jamming, man just friggin' jammin.
pleas let the world know about thi concert more should happen like this---BUT WITHOUT THE DRUGS AND BOOZE.

Vasa2 (talk) Feb 25, 2015 I was there with two of my cousins. It was the world's largest frisbee game. The stadium structure did bounce dangerously, especially when Janis Joplin was singing.
I wrote a list of who played and I just found it the other day:
Peter Yarrow, Tom Paxton, John Sebastian, Staple Singers, James Gang, Poco, Mother Earth, Pacific Gas & Electric, Al Kooper, the cast of Hair, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Sha-Na-Na, Richie Havens, Ten Wheel Drive, Johnny Winter, The Rascals, Janis Joplin, Paul Simon, Steppenwolf, Credence Clearwater Revival, Dionne Warwick. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vasa2 (talk • contribs) 05:24, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

I was at Shea Stadium Peace Concert
[edit]I was on leave from the navy & me & my friend Bob went to Shea stadium. We must have gotten there early. I remember seeing a working girl going home before getting there. We sat up high in front of where the stage was at second base. People from Fillmore East would push up band equipment on left side of stage & equipment from preceding at would go off the right side of stage. I was in awe of how efficiently this happened. I brought a little something to drink but did not see anyone near us drinking anything. I can't even remember if they had food or drink for sale during event. Peter, Paul & Mary mc'd the show. Either Peter or Paul was recently in the news, something about involvement with a I think young girl. Hazy on that detail. I brought my 10 power binoculars & watched most of the performers through them.
At the first part of the show was a guy that played piano accompanied by a drummer. His name escapes me but I do know he was well known in the music business. I can almost remember his name. I thought this act was maybe the best performance of all. It was probably wicked hot on the stage & the drummer took of his shirt, he looked like a god up there on the drums. This guy on the piano, I believe he sang also played for a long long time. After his set was over I noticed the drummer didn't leave but stayed to watch other acts. I thought it was very cool to see Sha Na Na especially through the binoculars. It was almost like I was there on the stage. I knew them from Woodstock. Dion Warwick had very impressive legs! I had never heard of Ten Wheel Drive, I was stationed at Norfolk Virginia & at that time they didn't play music like that except on one FM station after midnight. When I would come home to visit parents I brought my stereo equipment & reel to reel to record NY stationed that played that style of music & brought it back to Virginia. No matter how terrific an act was after they play for a while you wanted them to go off so you could see the next act. Ten Wheel Drive was loud exciting rock & roll. After they were done Paul Simon came on stage with his acoustic guitar & I don't think he was introduced. He just launched into a song. I think he thought everyone knew who he was and would get applause but he was a buzz kill after 10 Wheel. He walked off the stage, what did he expect without Garfunkel? Someone got on a microphone & explained it was Paul Simon & almost begged the crowd to applaud so he would come back which he did & put on a good show. Most of the problem was the stage was so far away it could have been Jesus on stage & you might not have reacognized him. I just now remembered the piano players name ,it was Al Kooper. He had a large stage presence & just having a shirtless drummer playing with him made it all the better I wanted to stay and see everyone but my friend Bob was fading fast. When Janis came on stage it was like she was crashing the party. I only knew it was her because of the binoculars , her hair was dyed green & I thought she sounded awful. It was to my ears screaming & I didn't recognize the song. And I was a huge fan of hers! I don't think she was on stage long & don't remember the band at all. They said Steppenwolf was going to play & I wanted to see them. I think "Born to be Wild was in heavy rotation at that time. Believe they flew in from west coast & that's why they were going to play late. Bob told me that he was getting sick from the constant sound so we went to go home, he was driving. The seats in the nose bleed section were not comfortable at all & to tell the truth I was also wanting to leave if only to get up & walk around. At this time I probably never heard of Miles Davis but I think he came on after we left. I think it would have been great to say I saw him play now & add him to my "bucket list" of acts I have seen. This event was like Woodstock without the fun of being with the Hippy's. No one was talking to people close to them in the seats. You got to see a once in a life time number of acts in a short time thanks to the quick change Fillmore East crew. Looking back on it , it's like I dreamt it happened. I'm not in touch with Bob Leskin any more & I wonder what he remembers about that day. I'm sure I was more into the music than he was. For some reason it was just yesterday that I thought I'd see what I could dig up about that hot uncomfortable magic day that I will never forget.
