Sowanda is a Papuan language of Sandaun Province, Papua New Guinea, with a couple hundred speakers in Indonesian Papua.
Dialects
[edit]There are three divergent varieties, Waina, Punda and Umeda, which may be distinct languages. They are each spoken in three different villages of Walsa Rural LLG in Sandaun Province:[2][3]
- Waina village (3°25′06″S 141°03′02″E / 3.418333°S 141.050496°E / -3.418333; 141.050496 (Waina)), located in Waina ward
- Punda village (3°25′38″S 141°06′37″E / 3.427183°S 141.110275°E / -3.427183; 141.110275 (Punda)), located in Punda ward
- Umeda village (3°24′49″S 141°05′42″E / 3.413694°S 141.094886°E / -3.413694; 141.094886 (Umeda)), located in Punda ward
