The Cape Ann Transportation Authority (CATA) is a public, non-profit organization in Massachusetts, charged with providing public transportation to the Cape Ann area, consisting of the city of Gloucester and the nearby towns of Essex, Ipswich, Rockport and Hamilton.

Routes

The system operates the following routes:[1]

  • The Green Line/Route 2 serves the area between Gloucester and Rockport via Eastern Ave every hour from 7:30 AM - 6:15 PM.
  • The Red Line/Route 4 serves the area between Gloucester/East Gloucester and Rockport via Thatcher Road every two hours from 6:40 AM - 5:20 PM.
  • The Blue Line/Route 3 serves the area between Gloucester and Rockport via Lanesville every two hours from 5:50 AM - 5:50 PM.
  • The Orange Line/Route 2 serves the area between Downtown Gloucester and Gloucester Crossing from 6:22 AM - 6:50 PM.
  • The Purple Line/Route 5 serves the area between Gloucester, West Gloucester, and Essex from 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM.
  • The Yellow Line/Route 6 serves the area between Gloucester and Magnolia from 8:20 AM - 4:20 PM.
  • The Saturday Mall Shuttle/Route 7 is a shuttle between Gloucester, Liberty Tree Mall and Northshore Mall.
  • The Ipswich - Essex - Crane Beach/Route 12 is a summertime weekend shuttle service connecting Ipswich MBTA train station, Crane Beach, and Essex[2]
  • The Rockport Shuttle/Route 10 serves the Blue Gates Meadow Parking Lot in the Transfer Station in Rockport, MA, to downtown Rockport; Service runs from May - October.
  • The Stage Fort Park Shuttle/Route 11 runs from Stage Fort Park to downtown Gloucester, Rocky Neck, and Good Harbor Beach; Service runs from June-Labor Day.

Fleet

CATA operates a diverse set of vehicles on its routes. Its full-size bus fleet includes 4 International HCCB buses, 12 Gillig Low Floor buses, while its mini bus fleet is made up of 16 Ford E-Series vehicles, including 12 Ford Cutaways, 3 Ford E350s, 1 New England RAM Low Floor.[3]
